Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold Display and Design

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold features a 6.5-inch external Super Actua display with a 1,080 x 2,342-pixel resolution, 399ppi pixel density and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Inside, there is a larger 8-inch Super Actua Flex display with a 2,076 x 2,152-pixel resolution and 372ppi density.

Both displays use LTPO technology and support a variable refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz. They can reach up to 3,600 nits of peak brightness, while HDR content can reach 2,400 nits. The outer display is protected by glass ceramic cover glass, while the foldable inner screen uses Ultra Thin Glass.

Google has also updated the hinge mechanism with multi-alloy steel and an aerospace-grade aluminium cover. The new foldable is thinner than the previous generation, measuring 10.1mm when folded, which is 0.6mm thinner than its predecessor. When unfolded, its thickness has dropped from 5.2mm to 5mm.

Tensor G6 Powers the Pixel 11 Pro Fold

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is powered by Google’s new Tensor G6 chipset. According to Google, the new processor delivers 20 percent better energy efficiency, 25 percent faster web browsing and 15 percent faster app launch times compared with the previous-generation Tensor G5.

The chipset is paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Google notes that the base 256GB version does not feature Zoned UFS, similar to last year’s model.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Cameras

Google has upgraded the main rear camera on the Pixel 11 Pro Fold compared with the previous generation. It now uses a 48-megapixel sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor size and an f/1.7 aperture. This is a notable improvement over the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 1/1.95-inch main sensor.

Google claims the new camera can capture 56 percent more light than its predecessor.

The remaining cameras are largely unchanged. The phone features a 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 1/3.4-inch sensor and f/2.2 aperture, along with a 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera featuring a 1/3.2-inch sensor, f/3.1 aperture and 5x optical zoom.

There are also two 10-megapixel front-facing cameras with f/2.2 apertures, one for the main display and another for the cover screen. The main front camera supports autofocus.

While the telephoto hardware remains the same as the previous generation, Google has increased the phone’s maximum Super Res Zoom to 30x. This improvement is likely linked to the upgraded TPU and ISP in the Tensor G6 chipset.

Foldable Features and HiLight

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold gets the same HiLight LED feature found on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL. Google has also added software features designed specifically for the foldable form factor.

These include dual-screen preview, rear-camera selfies, tabletop mode, Made You Look and Instant View. These features are designed to take advantage of the two displays and the phone’s flexible design.

Gemini AI Features and Connectivity

Google has packed the Pixel 11 Pro Fold with a range of AI features powered by Gemini. These include Gemini Intelligence, Gemini Nano, Gemini Live, Magic Cue, Circle to Search, Live Translate and Call Assist. Google notes that the availability of some features may vary depending on the country and language.

For connectivity, the foldable supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Ultra-wideband, NFC, Google Cast and USB Type-C 3.2. It also supports dual-SIM connectivity through one Nano SIM and one eSIM.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold Durability and Other Features

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It also has a fingerprint-resistant coating and an aerospace-grade aluminium frame. Google has used recycled materials across several components of the phone as part of its sustainability efforts.

The device also includes safety-focused features such as Car Crash Detection, Safety Check, Emergency Contacts, Android Earthquake Alerts and theft protection. Other features include stereo speakers and support for Spatial Audio.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is positioned as a thinner and lighter foldable than its predecessor while continuing to offer strong durability. The question, however, arises as to how it holds up against another recently launched foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

One of its major differences from the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the processor.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold uses Google’s Tensor G6 chipset, which is designed with a strong focus on AI capabilities. Google says the chip offers higher memory bandwidth, up to 3.5 times faster AI performance and an upgraded CPU for faster everyday tasks.

Tensor processors place greater emphasis on AI capabilities rather than performance. The Tensor G6 continues that approach by powering Google’s range of AI tools including Magic Editor, Gemini and Circle to Search.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8, meanwhile, uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy designed to offer a combination of high performance and AI capabilities.
