Developers turn to Google I/O for major announcements regarding the next version of Android, updates to web and app development frameworks, and new machine learning tools. In past editions, Google has also used the platform to introduce hardware products including Pixel smartphones and AI-driven features.
Beyond product announcements, Google I/O often serves as a strategic platform for the company to outline its long-term technology vision.
The announcement of Google I/O 2026 comes as Sundar Pichai is currently in India to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, taking place in New Delhi from February 16 to 20.
The summit gathers global technology leaders, policymakers, and researchers to discuss artificial intelligence deployment, governance, and real-world applications.
During his visit, Pichai held a formal meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, highlighting the importance of the trip. The discussion comes at a time when India is positioning itself as a global AI hub, with a strong emphasis on digital public infrastructure, innovation, and the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Pichai is also expected to address broader themes surrounding the transition from AI experimentation to large-scale, real-world implementation.
