Google is broadening the availability of its Call Recording feature within the Pixel Phone app, bringing the functionality to more countries beyond the United States. Here are more details.
According to a report by 9to5Google, users in multiple European countries have started noticing the Call Recording option enabled on their Pixel devices. This signals a broader international expansion beyond the US market.
Google has confirmed that the rollout will continue across all supported markets by the end of February, subject to local laws related to call recording and user consent.

Google initially announced the return of Call Recording in September with the wider rollout beginning in November. At the time, the feature was largely limited to users in the United States, while many European users reported that it was not yet available on their phones.
More recently, users in Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, and France have confirmed that the feature is now active on their devices. Following the launch of the Google Pixel 10a, Google reiterated that Call Recording would be made available in all eligible markets before the handset becomes widely available for purchase.
The Call Recording feature is supported on Google Pixel 6 and newer Pixel models running Android 14 or later. Importantly, the feature operates independently of AI and is separate from the Gemini
The Nano-powered Call Notes feature is found on select newer devices. Unlike Call Notes, Call Recording does not generate transcripts or summaries of conversations.

To activate the feature, users need to open the Phone app, navigate to Settings, and select Call Recording under the Call Assist section to complete the setup process. During an active call, a dedicated record button appears, allowing users to start recording instantly. Before recording begins, an automatic audio announcement notifies all participants.
Users can also configure the app to automatically record calls from unknown numbers. Additionally, there are options to delete recordings after 7, 14, or 30 days, or to keep them permanently.
Recorded calls are saved within the Phone app’s home tab, marked with a microphone icon, and can be played back directly from there. Google notes that availability varies depending on regional laws. While some countries prohibit call recording altogether, others require consent from all participants. The built-in voice notification is designed to help users comply with these legal requirements as the global rollout continues.
