Call it a marketing gimmick or a well-thought-out move as some did on the internet, Flipkart successfully managed to catch netizens’ attention this week. Here’s a quick recap of what happened.

Walmart-owned Flipkart grabbed attention in Bengaluru with a viral campaign that offered commuters in the city auto rides for just Re 1 with Flipkart UPI. City locals were quick to line up to take advantage of this deal and it made quite a noise on social media as well.

The promotional campaign was launched ahead of Flipkart’s annual Big Billion Day sale.

The campaign started on September 20 and was designed to build excitement around the sale. The purpose was to promote Flipkart’s UPI payment system. Autos participating in the campaign were equipped with Flipkart’s UPI payment system.

Riders also received Rs 11 cashback on each UPI transaction.

The e-commerce company partnered with OML (Only Much Louder) to bring this campaign to life.

Bengaluru, India’s tech hub, is known for its peak hours traffic and commute issues. Flipkart tactically planned the promotion to run during peak hours trying to ease the hassle of finding autos at busy times.

City commuters were evidently thrilled by the offer as many took to social media to express their delight.

The campaign also gathered reactions online with memes and social media posts flooding the popular platforms.

Some X (previously Twitter) users from other cities even called for the campaign to expand to other cities across India.
