Meta has introduced a new set of AI-driven features for Facebook, expanding the platform’s creative tools across profile pictures, photos, posts, and stories. The latest update highlights Meta’s continued push to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into its social media ecosystem.
Announcing the features in a detailed Newsroom post, Facebook said, “Today, we’re rolling out new features on Facebook powered by Meta AI that make it easier and more fun to express yourself in your profile picture, photos, Feed posts, and Stories.”
Here’s more on what’s new.
One of the key additions is the ability to animate profile pictures using Meta AI’s image editing tools. Users can now add motion effects to static profile photos, making them more dynamic and visually engaging.
Meta is offering a range of preset animation styles including confetti, headphones, wave, and heart effects. The company has confirmed that more preset animations will be added throughout the year. However, there currently appears to be no option for users to create fully custom animations.
Facebook is also enhancing its Stories and Memories features with text-based AI prompts. Users can generate images for Stories and shared Memories simply by describing what they want through prompts.
Additionally, after uploading a photo to Stories or selecting a Memory to share, users can access the Meta AI-powered Restyle option. This tool allows them to describe specific changes they would like to apply to the image. To simplify the process, Meta is also introducing preset styles that adjust elements such as mood, lighting, colours, backdrops, and overall visual tone.
Another update brings animated backdrops to text-based Feed posts, designed to make them “more fun and expressive.” When creating a text post, users can tap the rainbow-colored “A” icon to browse a selection of both static and animated backgrounds.
Meta has also revealed plans to introduce seasonal backgrounds in the future, aiming to make posts feel “timely, festive, and a little more fun.”
The introduction of these features is part of Meta’s broader strategy to integrate AI across Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The company has been actively promoting its generative AI tools, which are used not only for content creation and image editing but also for search functionality across Meta apps.
