In an exclusive interview with, Shivam Ranjan, Motorola’s Head of Marketing Asia-Pacific, delves into the philosophy and innovations behind the Moto Edge 50 Ultra.
He discusses the device’s focus on AI experiences, ecosystem integration through Smart Connect, and advanced camera technology.
With unique features and a distinctive design, the Moto Edge 50 Ultra aims to redefine user experience in the smartphone market.
Ranjan also addresses privacy concerns and future plans for AI functionalities in mid-range devices, offering insights into Motorola’s strategic vision for its flagship phone.
A: The Moto Edge 50 Ultra launch is part of our broader philosophy for the entire Edge family.
Our focus is on three key pillars.
First, we aim to create AI experiences that are differentiated and truly useful for consumers, adding significant value to their daily lives.
Second, we strive to build an ecosystem experience through Smart Connect, ensuring that the phone powers consumer experiences not just on the device but also through interconnected devices like televisions, tablets, and PCs.
Third, we emphasize advanced camera technology, aiming to deliver the best image and video quality.
This focus ensures that users have a seamless and exceptional photography experience, irrespective of what they want to capture.
A: Our philosophy for the Edge family centers around three main pillars:
AI Experiences: We aim to create AI-driven features that are not just innovative but also genuinely useful, enhancing the consumer’s lifestyle.
Ecosystem Experience: Through Smart Connect, we integrate the phone with other devices such as TVs, tablets, and PCs, ensuring a cohesive and interconnected user experience.
Camera Technology: We focus on delivering superior image and video quality, acknowledging that smartphones have become the primary tool for photography and videography for most users.
A: Moto AI is a combination of our in-house AI innovations designed to offer meaningful experiences.
Specifically, in the camera, it simplifies photography, making it easy for users to capture great photos without being experts.
Features like Magic Canvas allow users to generate images through text prompts, enabling various creative use cases such as social media posts, messaging, and invitations.
These AI features are designed to be practical, enjoyable, and enhance the overall user experience.
A: Currently, Moto AI is not integrated directly into specific third-party apps.
Instead, it operates system-wide, allowing users to generate content on their device and share it across various platforms.
For example, you can create images or videos and then share them through social media or messaging apps.
This approach provides flexibility and ensures that users can leverage AI features without being confined to any particular app.
A: Motorola places a high priority on consumer privacy and security.
All our devices are equipped with ThinkShield security, which offers four levels of protection: hardware, software, OS,and procurement.
Additionally, we have apps like Moto Secure that provide network and connectivity protection.
While our current AI features are primarily on-device to ensure personal privacy, future cloud-based experiences will also adhere to our strict privacy standards.
We will continue to offer options that allow consumers to control their data and decide how it is used.
A: AI functionalities require significant processing power and chipset support, which are more common in higher-end devices.
As AI technology becomes more efficient, we may see its adoption in mid-range devices.
However, advanced AI experiences still need substantial RAM and processing capabilities.
Currently, devices with at least 8GB of RAM, and ideally 12GB, are best suited for these advanced features.
This aligns with the specifications of the Moto Edge 50 Ultra, which comes with 12GB of RAM and high storage capacity to support these AI functionalities.
A: The wooden variant is part of our effort to create unique and distinctive designs that stand out in the market.
We want Motorola devices to be recognizable and provide a sense of pride and differentiation for our users.
This flagship device aims to make a statement, offering a premium look and feel that aligns with the user’s personal style.
The wooden texture not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures that users feel special and unique with their choice.
