Breaking: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5 launch date revealed ahead of official announcement could be July 26

HIGHLIGHTS

* Samsung will reportedly hold its Galaxy Unpacked for foldable phones a few weeks early this year.
* The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be first unveiled in South Korea.
* The phones may be up for sale in August, following a public event in July.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 launch date has reportedly been leaked, after rumours said this year’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event may happen earlier than expected.

A South Korean media outlet claimed the upcoming foldable smartphone will be first unveiled in the country in the last week of July, and this report validates that.

It has been rumored several times over the past few weeks that Samsung could launch its next-generation foldable phones earlier than expected.

Usually, it launches new Galaxy Z series phones in the month of August every year. However, this year, the company is planning to unveil new foldable phones in July.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5 Launch Date (Leaked)

As per the report, the South Korean tech giant has decided that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 26th.
However, it will be formally unveiled on August 11th, following a public event on July 26th.

This is two weeks earlier than when Samsung normally holds the Galaxy Unpacked event.
Usually, the company holds its Galaxy Unpacked for its foldable phones in August.

Also, unlike past Galaxy Unpacked events, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, or the US, the launch event for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be in Seoul, South Korea, the report said.

Samsung foldables are coming early this year

This is important news for a couple of reasons.
Not only is it exciting to have a potential date to look forward to for new Samsung foldables, but it also means we could get this year’s Z Fold and Z Flip earlier than usual.

For some context, last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were announced on August 10 and released on August 26.

Why move the release date so much earlier for the Fold 5 and Flip 5 this year?

We can’t say for certain, but it may have to do with Google’s recently announced Google Pixel Fold. Google plans to launch its first foldable phone sometime in June, likely towards the end of the month.

By pushing the Fold 5 and Flip 5 announcement up to late July, Samsung can ensure it gets back in the foldable conversation sooner rather than later — and also distances itself a bit more from the expected iPhone 15 series later in the fall.

The report also goes on to suggest that this coming Unpacked event will take place in Korea — a large departure from last year’s venue in San Francisco.

What we’re expecting from the Fold 5 and Flip 5

Whenever the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 get here, we’re expecting some interesting things from both of them.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will likely have a very similar design to the Z Fold 4, though there are reports of a new hinge design that could improve durability and reduce the intensity of the display crease. We’re also expecting a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, brighter displays, louder speakers, and 12GB of RAM.

Things get even more exciting when we start looking at the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It’s widely reported that the Flip 5 is getting a larger cover screen this year, potentially allowing you to do far more with the phone closed shut. The design of the new screen looks odd from what we’ve seen so far, but anything to improve that aspect of the Flip 5 will be greatly appreciated.

This is the currently expected Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 schedule

* July 26 – Unpacked announcement in Seoul, Korea;
* August 11 – global release date.

If Chosun Ilbo’s inside sources are correct, the next big Galaxy foldables will start shipping around the world exactly two years after the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 were formally unveiled and essentially 12 months on the heels of the previous summer Unpacked event.

That basically means Samsung is looking to move its foldable timeline up by two weeks, which may not sound radical but can definitely put a lot of extra pressure on the production of two phones that are widely expected to outsell all their forerunners anyway.

Boosting sales is obviously the company’s main goal here, and the sooner the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 come out, the more time they’ll be able to spend on store shelves without competing against Apple’s iPhone 15 family.

Although said family of next-gen iOS powerhouses is naturally not set to include any foldable models, the iPhone 14 roster has been primarily blamed for the foldable segment’s first-ever quarterly decline last holiday quarter.

As such, it’s easy to understand why Samsung is in a hurry to unveil and release the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, especially when you also consider Google’s buzzy recent Pixel Fold announcement.

Another interesting detail rumored a couple of times before and seemingly “confirmed” by South Korea’s oldest daily newspaper today is the venue of Samsung’s next Unpacked shindig.

This will apparently move from your traditional San Franciscos or New Yorks to Seoul for “practical reasons such as global recognition and event effects.

“We’re not entirely sure what that means, but it’s likely that Samsung is simply looking to cut expenses where it can without impacting the quality and appeal of its products in any way.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 launch date and place

According to a new report from Chosun Media, Samsung has decided to hold the Galaxy Unpacked event to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 on July 26, 2023.

This is two weeks earlier than Samsung’s usual announcement time frame for foldable phones.

Moreover, unlike previous Galaxy Unpacked events that happened in Barcelona, Spain, or New York/San Francisco, USA, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 launch event will take place in Seoul, South Korea.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could go on sale on August 11, 2023.
This early launch is taken due to sluggish sales of semiconductor chips that have affected Samsung’s profits by a huge margin.

So, to counter lower chip sales, Samsung is trying to launch its next-generation foldable phones earlier to make Q3 2023 revenue more bearable.

Samsung is bringing a major change to the structural design of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Both phones will use a new waterdrop-shaped hinge that makes the screen crease less visible and allow the phone to fold without any gap.

Both phones will retain the IPX7 water resistance rating and come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor.

What else do we know about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5?

In a nutshell, pretty much everything you need to know to be prepared to put your pre-order in as early as July 26.

We know the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will probably look familiar while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is all but guaranteed to go big and… unconventional when it comes to its cover screen.

We know these will likely be the absolute best Android phones in terms of raw power, and that apart from their upgraded processor, they may not change much under the hood of their predecessors.

We also know the camera specifications could go virtually unchanged compared to what the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 offer, which of course does still let plenty of room for software improvements resulting in actual real-life photography advances.

Retail pricing is undoubtedly the biggest missing puzzle piece at the moment, although there might also be other smaller details that we don’t know about just yet and could very well make a difference for prospective buyers.

Faqs on Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event

Faqs on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5

1) Samsung Galaxy Unpacked date leaks, suggesting Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 will launch early.Details?

Ans) There’s plenty of anticipation for Samsung’s next folding phones, in a segment of the market that’s expanding rapidly, with Google being the latest addition with the Pixel Fold. In some ways, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be the most significant folding phone that Samsung has released, because it now has to compete so widely.

We’ve seen plenty of leaks, but the suggestion of a Galaxy Unpacked event on 26 July in Seoul, Korea, will give fans plenty to be excited about.

The details have been shared by Korean news outlet Chosun.
The Galaxy Z devices launch at a similar point in the year that the Galaxy Note used to.

A few years ago that was in September, but the date has been drifting forward, as Samsung has shifted to more immediate launching of new phones.
Launching the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in July will bring them to market earlier than the previous generation’s August announcement, with a shipping date of 11 August suggested.

Samsung has been using a similar approach with its flagship Galaxy S devices, which used to launch at the end of February and have been drifting forward to be among the earliest flagship launches of the year.

It’s currently not clear if hosting Galaxy Unpacked in Korea means that there won’t be an event elsewhere.

Samsung has previously hosted events in Europe or the US, often using a major city for launch – London, New York, San Francisco, for example.

Launching in its home country would be a change. We have asked Samsung for clarification on the news, but are still waiting for a response.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to make changes to the exterior of the phone, with a 3.4-inch display making it cover more of the available space to make it more usable. We’re expecting to see a 6.1-inch folding panel on the interior of the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to be larger than the previous Z Fold 4, and offer a 7.6-inch internal display and 6.2-inch external display.

Both phones are expected to update to the latest hardware, to boost performance, while offering a full set of cameras.

With the recent launch of the Pixel Fold, there’s renewed interest in the optimisation of apps for larger screens, with Google having made adaptations to many of the native apps it offers.

This is likely to boost the experience for Galaxy Z users as this segment of the industry makes big strides forwards.

2) How are Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 cameras?

Ans) We liked the cameras in the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but they didn’t really change from the Flip 3, so we’re really hoping we see some kind of change in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

However, leaker Yogesh Brar suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a pair of 12MP rear cameras, matching the Galaxy Z Flip 4. While that is disappointing, apparently the sensor on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is supposed to be bigger, which means it’ll capture more light in photos.

There’s not a lot of change here that’s exciting, but a rumor out of left field suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (yes, the sixth one), will come with a 50MP camera (via @Tech_Reve).

3) What are Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 specs?

Ans) It would be nice to see the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a shiny new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, but it’s more than likely going to get stuck with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, since the former won’t launch until later this year.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was slotted in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and it did very well. When we ran our synthetic benchmarks like Geekbench 5.4, the S23 Ultra got 4,882. It easily outpaced the Google Pixel 7 Pro and its Tensor G2 CPU which notched 3,046.

However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s A16 Bionic chip still got the win at 5,333. However, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 benchmarks reportedly leaked (via SamMobile), and the score that the Flip 5 produced was 5,022.

Additionally, SamMobile claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 offers UFS 4.0 storage on devices with at least 256GB of storage. That means faster read and write speeds for users who cash out with bigger storage. UFS 4.0 features 4,200 MBps read and 2,800 MBps write speeds, which practically doubles against the UFS 3.1 speeds of 2,100 MBps and 1,200 MBps. UFS 4.0 also offers 23.2 Gbps per lane speed, which again is double that of UFS 3.1, and uses 46% of the power.

4) How is Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 battery?

Ans) The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 3,700 mAh battery lasted 8 hours and 33 minutes, which was just enough for us to like it, especially since it flew over the previous Flip 3’s 5-hour runtime. But we need more battery life, Samsung.

According to SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have easily replaceable batteries by using less glue and a pull tab. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard much about what the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5’s battery could look like. We do know that the secondary battery might be smaller (971mAh vs. 1,040mAh), but we can’t make any claims about the overall battery size until we know what the primary battery size is.
