HomeIn-FocusAsus 8Z finally coming to India today: Here’s what we know so far

After a series of leaks and rumours for nearly a year, Asus is finally launching the much-awaited Asus 8Z in India today. The Taiwanese handset maker has confirmed about this development through an official teaser on its Twitter handle, which says that the launch event will take place at 12:00 pm on February 28. The company has even sent My Mobile an invite to join the virtual launch today.

It must be noted that the Asus 8Z was unveiled as the Zenfone 8 back in May 2021 in the global market. The Asus Z series phones are known for their sleek, compact body, without compromising on power, and the company has mentioned about this in the tweet too – “We’re bringing you unparalleled performance into a compact sleek body”.

Expected price

If we talk about its price, the global variant i.e. Asus Zenfone 8 had a starting price of EUR 599 – which roughly translates into Rs 53,300 – at the time of its launch last year. However, if reports are to be believed, the Asus 8Z is expected to cost anywhere between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000 in India. It will be up for grabs on ecommerce platform Flipkart and leading offline stores.

Expected specifications

Now that the Asus 8Z is coming to India as a rebranded Zenfone 8, it is likely to feature the same specifications. It could sport a 5.92-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio, along with support for Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and 120Hz refresh rate. The compact HDR10+ certified display also offers a peak brightness of 1100 nits and 240Hz touch sampling rate.

If the global variant is to go by, the upcoming smartphone will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and could feature up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Although the Asus Zenfone 8 runs Android 11-based ZenUI 8 out of the box, the Asus 8Z could run Android 12 out-of-the-box when it comes to the country.

In terms of optics, the smartphone features a dual-camera setup on the rear panel, having a 64MP f/1.8 Sony IMX686 primary sensor with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The ultrawide sensor also takes macro shots. Up front, there is a punch-hole cutout for the 12MP front camera sensor for selfies and video calls.

The smartphone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. It also includes IP68 water and dust resistance, support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a 3.5mm headphone port. Since the Zenfone 8 is available in Obsidian Black and Horizon Silver colour options in the global market, we could expect the same shades with the Asus 8Z too in India.
