Apple’s recent product announcement week refreshed the iPad Air lineup and unveiled the MacBook Neo, among several other new offerings. What many Apple fans missed, however, was the Cupertino giant’s most affordable iPad. The entry-level iPad is one of Apple’s best-selling devices, making even a minor refresh significant. But it may not be long before we get a refreshed entry-level iPad from the company. Here are the complete details.

Entry-Level iPad in the First Half of 2026

According to reports, the base iPad is still expected to arrive within an early launch window that aligns closely with Apple’s ongoing software rollout timeline. This suggests that the update could land in the coming weeks.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter writes, “Since last year, Apple had been on track to launch a refreshed version of the entry-level iPad in the first half of 2026.”

He further notes that the launch is likely to fall within the iOS 26.4 release window, which runs until May, giving the company flexibility in choosing the exact announcement date.

A18 Chip to Enable AI Features

The highlight of the upgrade is expected to be the inclusion of the A18 chip, replacing the current A16 processor. This change should deliver a noticeable boost in performance while also introducing support for Apple Intelligence. With this move, Apple’s most affordable iPad will finally gain access to AI-powered features, although more advanced Siri upgrades are anticipated later with iOS 26.5.

There are also indications that Apple could include its in-house C1 modem and N1 networking chip, but these details are yet to be confirmed. Overall, the update appears to focus primarily on performance improvements rather than any major design overhaul.

Pricing Concerns Remain

While the hardware upgrade is promising, pricing continues to be a concern.

The base iPad currently starts at $349, but adding the Magic Keyboard Folio brings the total cost up to $598. This places it very close to the price of the MacBook Neo.

This pricing overlap could be an important factor for buyers, particularly those considering the iPad as a primary computing device. Apple may need to address this gap to maintain the value proposition of its entry-level tablet in the competitive market.
