That Apple is planning to release an updated iPhone SE early next is old news for anyone who stays even remotely in sync with what goes on in the tech community. The latest update suggests that the iPhone SE launch will be alongside a refreshed iPad Air and new Apple accessories.
The report comes from Bloomberg’s trusted Apple reporter Mark Gurman, who is known for breaking key Apple news from time to time.
As per Gurman, the upcoming iPhone SE will feature a major redesign. It will reportedly move away from the old forehead and chin bezels to adopt an all-screen look with Face ID unlock. If true, which most likely it will be, this will bring the SE in line with modern iPhone designs.
The new model will be based on the iPhone 14’s industrial design.
However, instead of the Dynamic Island cutout seen in recent iPhones, the SE will retain the older notch for housing the camera and Face ID sensors.
The upcoming iPhone SE will be powered by Apple’s A18 chip and support the latest Apple Intelligence features.
This update will also mark the end of the iOS home button across Apple’s entire product lineup. It is expected to get an OLED display for the first time.
The report also suggests that it will still feature just one rear camera, unlike its higher-end counterparts.
The current iPhone SE starts at $429. As of now, it’s unclear if the 2025 model will maintain this price. However, we can expect a slight increase in price due to its upgraded design.
The iPad Air is also due for an early 2025 refresh.
The report suggests the external design will remain the same and Apple will most likely focus on internal improvements.
Gurman didn’t specify which chip will power the new iPad Air. However, it is expected to come in 11-inch and 13-inch models. It was previously reported that both models have been codenamed J607 and J637, respectively.
Lastly, Apple is also planning to upgrade its keyboard accessories. We will most likely get an upgraded iPad Pro Magic Keyboard with a function row and a larger/more functional trackpad.
Meanwhile, an October event is expected to unveil new M4-powered Macs. The same event might also introduce updates to the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini.
