Apple could be preparing a new high-end iMac targeted at professional users, according to a fresh leak. It hints at the possible return of the iMac Pro, this time powered by the M5 chip series.
Recent leaks of Apple’s internal code have revealed a range of upcoming hardware and software developments. The latest discovery, reported by MacRumors, points to a powerful new iMac configuration. Specifically, references to a premium iMac equipped with the M5 Max chip were found in “leaked kernel debug kit files used by Apple engineers.”
At present, Apple’s M4-powered iMac is limited to standard configurations and does not offer pro-grade silicon such as an M4 Pro or M4 Max. This has left professionals without a high-performance iMac option in the current lineup, making the appearance of an M5 Max iMac particularly notable.
Interestingly, the leaked code mentions only an M5 Max variant with no reference to an M5 Pro version. This raises questions, as a full iMac Pro relaunch would typically be expected to include multiple high-end chip options.
That said, rumours of Apple working on a larger, professional-focused iMac have surfaced repeatedly over the years. As recently as February, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that a larger iMac model remained part of Apple’s long-term product roadmap.
While the leak does not specify the display size of the potential M5 Max iMac, it strongly suggests that any such model would feature a screen larger than the current 24-inch iMac. If the device does move forward, it would likely cater to creative professionals seeking desktop-class performance in an all-in-one design.
