Apple has officially launched the iPhone Air, a brand-new addition to its lineup that stands out with an ultra-thin design and next-gen hardware upgrades. Positioned above the standard iPhone 17 but below the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone Air takes over from the “Plus” model in Apple’s portfolio.
“The all-new iPhone Air is so powerful, yet impossibly thin and light, that you really have to hold it to believe it’s real. This huge leap in design and engineering is only made possible through Apple innovation, especially Apple silicon,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “iPhone Air is a brand-new member of the iPhone family that delivers advanced features our users will love, like pro performance, a versatile 48MP Fusion camera system, our innovative Center Stage front camera, and great all-day battery life — all in a breakthrough design that feels like you’re holding the future.”
iPhone Air – Design and Features

At just 5.6mm thick, the iPhone Air is now the thinnest iPhone ever. It comes with a titanium frame featuring a polished finish, delivering both style and strength. Apple has also introduced Ceramic Shield 2 protection on both the front and back, offering 3x better scratch resistance than before. According to Apple, this makes the iPhone Air the most durable iPhone to date.

A distinctive new design element is a rear plateau that spans the entire width of the phone, housing the rear camera, front camera, speaker, and Apple Silicon.
Apple explains, “Featuring a breakthrough design with pro performance, iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever made at 5.6mm, and it is incredibly light, with a large, stunning display. The grade 5 titanium frame is strong, with an elegant high-gloss mirror finish, and a new plateau on the back that is precision-milled on both sides to house the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon. This maximizes space for the battery to deliver remarkable all-day battery life. The thin design also features the Action button, so users can easily access a variety of functions with just a press, and Camera Control, to quickly launch the camera or enable visual intelligence”
The iPhone Air sports a 6.5-inch OLED display with ProMotion technology, capable of reaching up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, the highest ever on an iPhone. To improve visibility, the screen also uses a 7-layer anti-reflective coating, minimising glare and making it easier to read in bright light conditions.

The iPhone Air features a single 48MP rear fusion camera that supports both 1x and 2x modes. On the front, there’s an 18MP camera with Centre Stage, which uses AI to automatically adjust the frame and expand the field of view depending on how many people are in the shot.
A unique square sensor allows for four composition sizes, eliminating the need to rotate the device for landscape selfies. The phone also introduces dual-capture video, combining footage from the front and rear cameras. Stabilisation keeps the subject steady in the front camera, while the rear camera offers zoom capabilities.

Under the hood, the iPhone Air is powered by the A19 Pro chip, featuring a six-core CPU and a new GPU with second-gen Dynamic Caching, doubled math rates, and unified image compression.
For connectivity, Apple has added the C1X custom modem, which is twice as fast, alongside a custom-designed N1 chip that integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, and Thread. The iPhone Air is eSIM only, continuing Apple’s move away from physical SIM cards.
