Highlights

  • Contrary reports suggest a new version of AirPods Pro.
  • X leaker reveals that the upcoming AirPods Pro will feature improved Active Noise Canceling (ANC).
  • Another report says AirPods may include advanced health features.

The iPhone 16 event date is now announced for September 9 and with that Apple is gearing up to showcase its latest portfolio of iPhones and more.

While we wait for the event to unfold, keeping up with rumours and speculations is getting tougher.

This time we are hearing contrary reports on the upcoming AirPods line-up.

We previously reported that Apple will likely release two new variants of AirPods 4 to replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.

However, recent rumours suggest slightly different plans.

Joe Rossignol for MacRumors: Apple already advertises the AirPods Pro 2 as featuring “up to twice as much” active noise cancellation compared to the original AirPods Pro, so the AirPods Pro 3 would be even more improved in this regard. Apple is expected to announce both low-end and mid-tier AirPods 4 models during its September 9 special event. Kosutami claimed that the AirPods Pro 3 are also coming “soon,” but it is unclear if this information is accurate, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has previously reported that Apple planned to release redesigned AirPods Pro in 2025.

According to more recent rumours, alongside the iPhone 16, we could also get a new version of AirPods Pro.

A leaker named Kosutami on X (previously Twitter), a new AirPods Pro is coming. Kosutami also revealed that the upcoming AirPods Pro will feature “much better ANC (Active Noise Canceling)” than previous models.

There were also reports of advanced noise-cancelling technology getting introduced in the new AirPods Pro.

ANC has always been a standout feature of the AirPods Pro. Apple uses a system where algorithms cancel out background noise by generating an opposite sound wave.

Apple improved this feature in the AirPods Pro 2 with Adaptive Mode.

This successfully blends Transparency and ANC to let you hear your surroundings while adjusting the audio for traffic or construction noise.

Apple is reportedly working on two versions: one as a direct successor to the third-generation AirPods and another model with non-removable ear tips and ANC.

The same leaker over a quoted post also revealed that “AirPods 4th generation, both would be announced soon.”

The latest leak on X is interesting because there were reports doing rounds that AirPods Pro 3 are expected in the third quarter of 2025.

However, if the leaker on X is right, we might get to see new earbuds in the upcoming Apple event in two weeks.

In another report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported that the upcoming AirPods are likely to have advanced health features.

We might be getting something like a hearing test. It probably will play different tones to assess hearing capabilities.

There’s also speculation that Apple might also add a sensor to measure body temperature through the ear canal to detect signs of illness.

This will help with accuracy in measurements as compared to the current Apple Watch’s wrist system.

It is good that the iPhone 16 event is just a couple of weeks away.

We won’t have to wait long to see if these new AirPods, provided they are truly coming.
