Apple has officially launched the AirPods Max 2 in India, its latest premium over-ear headphones. The new model arrives five years after the debut of the original AirPods Max and two years after a refreshed version, bringing notable upgrades in performance and features.
The headphones are powered by Apple’s new H2 chip, which is the same processor used in the latest-generation AirPods Pro. It promises improvements in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Transparency mode, and overall sound quality. At the same time, Apple has retained the signature premium design of the original model while enhancing computational audio and ecosystem integration.

The AirPods Max 2 are equipped with the H2 chip, replacing the older H1 chip found in the previous generation. According to Apple, the new chip enables up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation, helping reduce ambient noise such as airplane engines and city traffic.
Transparency mode has also been enhanced with improved digital signal processing, making surrounding sounds feel more natural while keeping users aware of their environment.
Apple has upgraded the audio system with a new high dynamic range amplifier, which is designed to deliver clearer sound with better bass, more accurate mids, and sharper highs. The headphones also support 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio when connected via USB Type-C and offer ultra-low latency audio for gaming and professional use.
The device continues to support Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
With the new model, Apple has introduced several intelligent features. These include Adaptive Audio, which automatically adjusts noise control levels depending on the surroundings, and Conversation Awareness, which lowers the volume when the user starts speaking.
The AirPods Max 2 also support Live Translation powered by Apple Intelligence, allowing real-time communication across different languages. Voice Isolation has been added to improve call clarity by focusing on the user’s voice while reducing background noise.
For creators, Apple has added studio-quality audio recording. There is also a camera remote feature that lets users take photos or control video recording using the Digital Crown.

Apple claims the AirPods Max 2 can deliver up to 20 hours of listening time with ANC and Spatial Audio enabled. The headphones also support fast charging.
From a sustainability perspective, the product uses 100 percent recycled rare-earth elements in magnets, 100 percent recycled polyester in the ear cushions, and recycled gold and tin in circuit boards. The packaging is fully fibre-based and recyclable, aligning with Apple’s broader Apple 2030 carbon neutrality goals.
The biggest upgrade in the AirPods Max 2 is the shift from the H1 to the H2 chip. This enables features such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation. Notably, all these capabilities that were not available on the original model. Users also get Siri head gesture controls and a camera remote function via the Digital Crown.
Apple claims the new model delivers up to 1.5x better ANC performance, thanks to improved computational audio. Transparency mode has also been refined to offer a more natural listening experience.
Another major addition is support for 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio over USB Type-C, along with a new high dynamic range amplifier for improved sound output, better instrument separation, and tighter bass.
Battery life remains unchanged at 20 hours.
In terms of design, the AirPods Max 2 largely retain the same look as the original including the knit mesh headband and over-ear form factor. The headphones are available in Midnight, Starlight, Orange, Purple, and Blue colour options.
