After partnering with companies like Acer and Lenovo for the Chromebook repair programme, Google has announced to launch self-repair programme for pixel phones. The US-based tech giant is working with iFixit to make it easier for independent repair professionals and skilled consumers with the relevant technical experience to access the genuine Google parts they need to repair Pixel phones.
According to Ana Corrales, Chief Operating Officer, Consumer Hardware, Google genuine spare parts like batteries, replacement displays, cameras and more for Pixel 2 through Pixel 6 Pro, can be purchased at ifixit.com. In addition to current models, spare parts of future Pixel models, in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and EU countries where Pixel will be sold at ifixit.com either individually or in iFixit Fix Kits. Google is also taking steps to expand repair options for other devices, too.
Recently, Samsung announced its partnership with iFixit to expand customer-first care experience, by launching New Self-Repair Program for American users. Available exclusively for Galaxy device owners, Samsung, in collaboration with iFixit, will offer access to genuine device parts, repair tools, and intuitive, visual, step-by-step repair guides. In November 2021, a similar initiative was announced by the Apple for its popular smartphone series, iPhone.
