iQOO Neo 12 Could Debut World’s First Mass-Produced 2K 185Hz OLED Display

Highlights

  • The iQOO Neo 12 is tipped to debut with a Visionox‑made 2K OLED display supporting 185Hz refresh rate, potentially the world’s first mass‑produced panel of its kind.
  • It is expected to include a 6.83‑inch flat display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, above 9,000mAh battery with 100W charging and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
  • The phone could launch in China this month, though iQOO has not officially confirmed the Neo 12’s release date or specifications yet.

The iQOO Neo 12 could be getting closer to its launch in China with a new leak revealing an unusually high-refresh-rate display. Tipster Digital Chat Station has suggested that the upcoming iQOO phone could feature a 2K display with a 185Hz refresh rate. The panel is reportedly being developed by Visionox and could become the world’s first mass-produced 2K display with support for a 185Hz refresh rate.

World’s First Mass-Produced 2K 185Hz OLED Panel

According to the latest leak, the iQOO Neo 12 could use a new display panel from Visionox. The panel is said to combine 2K resolution with a 185Hz refresh rate, which would make it particularly interesting for gaming-focused smartphones.

The reported display is based on Visionox’s fourth-generation pTSF technology. The company claims that this technology can improve several aspects of the panel, including brightness, overall display quality and lifespan.

The new panel is also reportedly more power efficient than previous-generation 2K displays. This could be important for a phone with such a high refresh rate, as running a display at higher refresh rates can generally increase power consumption.

Why 2K at 185Hz Is a Big Deal?

Smartphones with high refresh rates have traditionally had to balance refresh rate against display resolution and power efficiency. While some gaming-focused phones have pushed refresh rates higher, combining a sharp 2K resolution with an extremely high refresh rate is more challenging.

Earlier iQOO Neo 12 leaks had pointed to a 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate. The reported 185Hz panel would therefore represent a more ambitious target for the upcoming phone.

If the information is accurate, the Neo 12 could offer a combination of high resolution and very high refresh rate that would appeal particularly to users who prioritise gaming and smooth on-screen movement.

iQOO Neo 12 Expected Specifications

The display is the latest major detail to emerge about the iQOO Neo 12. Earlier reports have suggested that the phone could feature a 6.83-inch flat display.

The handset is also expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with a dedicated display chip aimed at improving gaming performance. This combination could position the Neo 12 as a competitor to the Redmi K100 Pro series.

A previously reported prototype was said to feature a battery exceeding 9,000mAh, while iQOO was reportedly testing an even larger capacity. Despite the large battery, the phone is expected to retain 100W fast charging.

Other expected features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor and a high-level IP rating.

Meanwhile, previous speculation has pointed to a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary sensor and a 16MP front-facing camera.

iQOO Neo 12 Launch Timeline

The iQOO Neo 12 was not launched alongside the iQOO 16, despite the company unveiling its latest flagship in October. This is different from the previous launch cycle, when iQOO introduced the iQOO 15 and Neo 11 separately.

According to Digital Chat Station, the new iQOO phone could go official in China this month.

However, iQOO has not officially confirmed the Neo 12’s launch date or specifications yet. More details are expected to emerge ahead of the launch.
