WhatsApp has been consistent in always adding new features to enhance the user experience.
It was previously reported that the popular messaging app is currently in the works to introduce new augmented reality (AR) feature effects for video calls.
Now more recent reports suggest WhatsApp is taking things even further by integrating these effects directly into the camera. Here’s what we know about the new in-camera WhatsApp features.
PhoneArena in its latest report suggests that the recent WhatsApp is offering new in-camera features in its beta update for Android (version 2.24.20.20).
In the beta update that is currently available on the Google Play Store, the app is testing a feature that allows users to apply effects and filters while using the camera.
Previously, these effects were only available during video calls.
However, now users would be able to use these effects and filters for photos and videos. It aims to offer more creative freedom to the users.
The report also suggests that WhatsApp is adding a new filter button in its camera interface. It will allow users to easily switch between different filters with just a tap.
These filters include various editing options such as skin-smoothing for getting that perfect selfie or a background-changing feature that was earlier limited to video calls. This means users would now be able to blur out the background or replace it with virtual scenes.
As of now, these in-camera effects are only available to some beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.
However, we can expect the feature to roll out to a wider user base in the coming weeks.
With these updates, WhatsApp will be the third Meta social media app after Facebook and Instagram to have in-camera effects.
Meanwhile, this is not the only new feature we will be able to see in WhatsApp future updates.
In other WhatsApp news, the app is also testing a feature that will allow users to tag contacts in their status updates. It will be similar to tagging on social media platforms.
Moreover, the messaging platform is reportedly working on features that would help users combat spam more effectively.
While the exact details of these features are currently unavailable, we are hoping to get an official update on what’s coming soon.
