We previously reported that WhatsApp is developing a new optional paid premium subscription for the platform. Now, the latest reports suggest that WhatsApp could bring extra personalisation and convenience features for users willing to pay. The paid subscription could also introduce additional tools designed to enhance the overall interface and improve chat management for subscribers. Notably, the core messaging experience will continue to remain free. Here are more details.
WhatsApp Plus Premium Subscription Plan – What To Expect?
According to the latest WABetaInfo report, the upcoming WhatsApp Subscription plan will be called “WhatsApp Plus” and it is in development for both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp.
WABetaInfo further revealed that the upcoming WhatsApp subscription model may focus heavily on visual customisation options. Users who subscribe could reportedly modify the app’s theme, change accent colours across the interface, and choose from multiple alternative app icons.

The report suggests that around 14 new icon styles are currently being developed, along with several colour options that could allow users to personalise the appearance of the app.
Another major feature linked to the subscription is an expanded chat pinning limit. At present, users of WhatsApp can pin only three conversations at the top of their chat list. However, those subscribed to WhatsApp Plus may reportedly be able to pin up to 20 chats, effectively adding space for 17 more pinned conversations beyond the current limit.
The premium plan could also introduce exclusive ringtones created specifically for WhatsApp. Each ringtone is expected to have a distinctive sound profile, making it easier for users to recognise incoming WhatsApp calls compared to alerts from other apps.
In addition, the report indicates that more subscriber-only features could arrive in the future. Users of WhatsApp Plus may gain access to exclusive sticker packs that are not available to free users. Some message reactions might also become more immersive and interactive, potentially making conversations feel more lively and engaging.

Availability
As of now, WhatsApp or Meta has not confirmed the pricing or announced when the subscription might launch. The report also notes that features associated with WhatsApp Plus could change before the final rollout.
As we mentioned before, the core functionality of WhatsApp will remain free for all users. People will still be able to send and receive messages, make voice and video calls, share media files, participate in group chats, and use the platform’s privacy and security features without any payment.
