WhatsApp is always working on new features and most of them show up in beta versions before going public. That’s exactly what’s happening as folks have just discovered a new Logout option in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android. Here’s what we know.
New Logout Option in WhatsApp Beta
As of now, WhatsApp lets you log out only on linked devices, like desktops or tablets. But on your main phone, there’s no logout button and your only option is to delete your account. That’s not an ideal scenario if you just want to take a break, because deleting your account wipes out all your data and removes you from every group.
Thankfully, it appears WhatsApp is working to fix that.

The team at Android Authority spotted a new “Logout” feature in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.17.37. It shows up in the Account settings, and when you tap it, you get two choices –
- “Erase all Data & preferences” – This works like uninstalling WhatsApp. It logs you out and deletes all your app data and preferences, but you’ll still remain in your group chats.
- “Keep all Data & preferences” – This option simply logs you out without deleting anything. It’s perfect if you want to take a break, troubleshoot an issue, or switch accounts. When you log back in with your phone number, all your chats, groups, and settings come right back.
Right now, the feature appears to be in internal testing, as it’s marked with an “Internal” badge in the current beta version. That means it might not show up for users just yet, but it could roll out in a future beta before becoming available to everyone in the stable version.
So, if you’ve ever wanted a simple way to step away from WhatsApp without deleting everything, a proper Logout button may finally be on the way.
