Vivo has officially kicked off releasing teasers for its next foldable phone the Vivo X Fold 5. In a new video shared by Vivo’s China Product Manager, Han Boxiao, the company hints that the X Fold 5 will set a “new record for thinness and lightness in the world of foldable phones.”
The teaser confirms that the X Fold 5 will be lighter than the X Fold 3, which weighed 219 grams.
Meanwhile, a new report by XpertPick also claims the upcoming foldable will weigh just 209 grams and measure 4.3mm when unfolded and 9.33mm when folded.
That would make it the lightest foldable phone ever, even lighter than the Oppo Find N5, which weighs 229 grams. However, in terms of thickness, the Find N5 is 4.2mm unfolded and 8.9mm folded, making it slightly slimmer.
There’s also speculation that Honor’s upcoming Magic V5, rumoured to measure around 8mm when folded, might become the slimmest foldable instead.
The Vivo X Fold 5 is said to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same chip used in the X Fold 3 Pro.
This could give Vivo a pricing advantage. The X Fold 5 might land at a lower price point compared to the Find N5 and Magic V5.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the Vivo X Fold 5 is scheduled to launch this June in China. Alongside the foldable, Vivo is also expected to unveil the Vivo Pad 5e tablet and the Vivo TWS Air 3 Pro earbuds.
Leaks suggest the X Fold 5 will feature a 6.53-inch LTPO OLED cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The main inner screen will be 8.03 inches, also AMOLED with 120Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution.
Powering the phone will be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The rear camera setup could include three 50MP sensors, a Sony IMX921 main camera, an ultrawide lens with autofocus and a Sony IMX882 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, there might be two 32MP cameras, one on the outer screen and another on the inner.
One of the standout features could be the 6000mAh battery, possibly the largest battery ever in a foldable phone. Despite the battery size, the phone’s body is expected to stay impressively slim at 4.3mm unfolded and 9.3mm folded. It may also support 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.
Additional features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a three-stage Alert Slider, AI tools and an official IP rating, possibly similar to the IPX4 rating seen on the X Fold 3 Pro.
