In a surprising turn of events, a man in Adana, Turkey, known as Azim G., has been caught after stealing iPhones worth $30,000.
Employed by a courier company, his audacious theft was aimed at purchasing a car for his girlfriend.
While on duty to deliver a package of 33 iPhones to a technology store in a shopping mall, Azim G. chose to abscond with the phones.
The high value of iPhones in Turkey, due to steep taxes, made these phones particularly lucrative for theft.
The thief managed to sell most of the stolen phones swiftly and bought a car with the proceeds.
The theft came to light when the store noticed the missing delivery and checked the security cameras, which revealed that Azim G. never completed the delivery.
The police subsequently raided his residence, leading to his confession of stealing five iPhones found at his home.
His girlfriend, unaware of the car’s origins, claimed she did not know it was bought with stolen money.
With the judiciary set to make the final decision, the car and the remaining unsold iPhones have been seized.
However, it remains uncertain who will bear the responsibility for the damages incurred due to the theft.
