In a statement, the White House noted, “Today, President Donald J Trump held a productive call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. The two leaders discussed expanding and deepening cooperation.”
The discussion covered security concerns in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.
The White House added, “The President emphasised the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and moving toward a fair bilateral trading relationship.”

India and the US continue to address trade and immigration challenges, as Trump has previously mentioned imposing “100 per cent tariffs” on the BRICS grouping, which includes India.
During a press briefing, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted ongoing dialogue between the two nations, expressing optimism. “Trade occupies a special place within the strong and multi-faceted India-US relationship,” Jaiswal said, adding that bilateral trade reached a record $190 billion in 2023.
Trump’s relationship with India has been marked by high-profile events such as his last foreign trip during his first term to India in 2020, where he and Modi addressed massive rallies in Houston and Ahmedabad.
