Tecno is working on a new version of its foldable flip phone, called the Phantom V2 Flip.
The upcoming model has just appeared at the FCC regulatory body, revealing some key details.
The biggest change seems to be the cover display design.
While the original Phantom V Flip had a circular outer screen, the V2 Flip will feature a more practical rectangular cover display instead.
A rectangular cover screen makes much more sense on a flip phone.
It allows you to properly view and use different apps, widgets and information at a glance when the phone is folded.
The circular screen on the previous model was quite limited in functionality.

Another improvement spotted in the FCC documents is an upgrade to the battery capacity and charging speeds.
The Phantom V2 Flip will pack a total rated battery capacity of 4,490mAh, split across two cells.
This is a step up from the 4,000mAh battery on the original model.
The V2 Flip will also support faster 70W wired charging, compared to just 45W on its predecessor.
So the new Tecno foldable flip phone should last longer on a single charge and can recharge its bigger battery much quicker as well.
Previous leaks suggest the Phantom V2 Flip will be powered by a Dimensity 8050 chipset from MediaTek.
This should provide ample performance for most users.
The FCC listing also confirms the base model will come with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
This is a decent configuration for a mid-range foldable device.
There’s no official word from Tecno yet on exactly when the Phantom V2 Flip will be unveiled and released.
But with the phone now passing through FCC certification, an announcement could be made in the coming weeks or months.
The first Phantom V Flip launched in late 2022, so we could see this second-gen model arrive around the same time towards the end of 2023.
