We have got our hands on one of the most affordable flip smartphones in the market today.
It is Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G and we have spent a considerable amount of time with the device. Based on our experience with the phone, here’s a hands-on Tecno Phantom V Flip2 review.
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
| Pros | Cons |
| Affordable
Good design Solid build quality Good battery and fast charging Vibrant displays Decent camera performance |
● No IP Rating
● Struggle with low-light photos ● No Wireless charging

Tecno Phantom V Flip2 is one of the more reasonably priced folding phones in the market but in no way does it look or feel like one when you get to hold it in your hands.
We had the Moondust Grey colour variant for the review and it looks quite sophisticated. The back panel has a smooth texture in Grey colour with a shimmering sand look. There is a very neat-looking ‘Designed By PHANTOM’ logo on the back as well.
Tecno Phantom V Flip2 is the second generation flip phone from the Chinese brand and just by holding it for the first time, we could feel the upgrade in build quality.
The aluminium frame is sturdy and so is the folding mechanism. The clicking sound while both opening and closing the phone feels quite nice. The double-helical Star-Track drop-shaped hinge is strong and has been rated for thousands of folds. There is strong resistance in the fold. So, while you can open it with one hand, you will have to put in some effort.
The phone design is also very compact and lightweight. It doesn’t feel too wide when folded. And at 196g, it definitely isn’t too heavy either.
The speakers, charging port and SIM trey are at the bottom while the power/lock button plus the volume rockers are on the right-hand side. The two-lens camera module is neat and does eat up much space on the external display.
The one we wish Tecno had added is is IP rating. Yes, V Flip2 doesn’t have any IP rating protection, so keep that in mind when you are near water or generally outside.
Overall, the design of the V Flip2 is impressive and doesn’t have anything significant to dislike.
Being a flip phone, we have two displays to talk about here.
The external display is 3.64-inch AMOLED and looks quite big compared to what we have seen in the previous generation device. The display looks big and comes with a 1056 x 1066 pixel resolution and 413 ppi. It basically makes the whole look of the phone. It is also big enough for all regular tasks. The visuals appear clear and sharp.
The internal display is a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 2,640 x 1,080-pixel resolution (426ppi, 22:9 aspect). Other specs are 120Hz refresh rate (10Hz-120Hz), 360Hz touch sampling, 1440Hz PWM dimming and up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. While the display may seem similar to the first-generation device, Tecno has definitely made some improvements.
The crease on the internal display is visible. But it doesn’t take away from the viewing experience too much when the screen is on.
We instantly noticed the brightness of both the displays. You can easily use this phone outdoors with comfort. Moreover, the displays feel smooth and we didn’t experience any lags or hands even while opening and closing the device.
Tecno Phantom V Flip2 comes with the mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor.
Now this is neither a popular chipset nor the most powerful. However, while using the phone extensively for about a week, we didn’t face any particular performance issues with the phone.
It can pretty much handle all regular tasks smoothly. We didn’t face any lags or slowdowns during everyday usage like scrolling through apps or surfing the internet.
There could be some heating issues when multitasking or gaming. The phone is decent for average gaming on medium settings. However, it may not be the best of devices for graphic-heavy games. We tried Honkai: Star Rail and the experience was otherwise but the phone does lag at times when playing for too long.
There are also some AI features here like AI Smart Erase, AI Drawing Board, Text Geneator, Proofread and Smart Al Assistant Ella.
When tested on some of the top Benchmarking platforms, the phone was able to handle itself well. It scored 750 in single-core and 2545 in multi-core on Geekbench 6 CPU test. AnTuTu score was 810108, proving to be decent in the segment.
Phantom V Flip2 features an all-flagship camera setup with a 50MP Main lens and a 50MP Ultra-wide lens on the rear panel. The rear panel camera setup also works as cover screen selfie cams on the external display.
The external screen camera can be a great way to shoot some quick selfies. It comes with Portrait, AI CAM and Video shooting modes. There is HDR available on the external display along with a flash placed just about the lens. It also has shooting gesture control and blurry effect.
The internal display selfie camera is a 32MP lens that works quite well. You can use the form of the phone from different angles as a tripod while taking selfies from the internal display selfie camera. It can be quite useful for video calls or vlogging as you can shoot from any angle between 30° to 150°.
We loved how versatile the entire camera system is and how much room it gives you for creativity. You can basically use this phone in multiple ways to shoot the scene you want.
The camera quality is quite good as it takes sharp and clear shots. The colour reproduction is also good. It does fine-tune the shots to make it more clearer but nothing comes out looking artificial.
The camera does struggle in low-light environments though. So, we would say make sure you find proper lighting when taking pictures in the night using the Phantom V Flip2.
Here are some camera samples to give you an idea about the quality of shots.
The 4720mAh battery capacity on Phantom V Flip2 might seem too low on paper. But here’s the thing, while using the phone we didn’t feel it was any less than phones in the same price segment. We got almost a full day of power with regular usage.
Also, Tecno Phantom V Flip2 5G scores well and more than makes up for low battery capacity with the 70W fast charging. The best thing is Tecno is bundling the 70W adapter inside the box, which means you get to leverage the fast charging right out of the box. The fast charging makes all the difference here.
We got up to 50% from under 10 per cent within 15 minutes of charging. This alone makes the entire battery and charging system extraordinary.
The market today has many options if it is a flip phone that you are particularly looking for. However, Tecno Phantom V Flip2 is easily one of the most affordable flip phones you will find. There are no big compromises in terms of design or performance as well, which makes this phone a very interesting choice in the segment. The displays are great, the camera is decent, the phone looks really good and the build quality is solid. The battery backup is decent with some extraordinary fast charging capability.
Overall, we would say that if you are looking for a flip phone but don’t want to empty your wallet way too much, this is a perfect choice.
