Despite the phone not being plugged into a charger, Sanjeev Raja, a resident of Mohaddinagar in Bhagalpur, Bihar, shared videos and pictures of his phone catching fire. Smartphones catching fire have become an alarming issue, with multiple instances in the past where devices from Xiaomi, OnePlus, and other brands have exploded. In the latest incident, a Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G suddenly exploded, emitting smoke. Sanjeev Raja, a resident of Mohaddinagar, Bhagalpur, Bihar, has shared videos and images of his phone catching fire with a known website despite the device not being connected to a charger. The cause of the explosion is not immediately clear, but fortunately, no one was harmed as the device was placed on a bed, away from the owner and their family. Although the reason for the explosion is currently unknown, thankfully no one was hurt because the handset was positioned on a bed far from the owner and their family. Such incidents can be very dangerous and have the potential to inflict major harm. The Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G spewing smoke may be seen in the video shared by the publication. Sanieev Raja claims that his Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, which he bought in December 2021, began to emit smoke when it wasn't connected to a charger. While he was away making tea, the phone was left on his bed. When he came back, he was able to record a video of his phone venting smoke. The central portion of the rear panel is fully in the video and images shared indicate the damage may have occurred close to the battery area. The blast's force was so great that the mattress (on which the phone was placed) was burned through on at least 2-3 layers. Due to the fire, the rear cover-which looks to be composed of rubber-was seen stuck to the bedsheet. Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G Blast Incident: What happened? Sanjeev Raja alleges that his Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, which was purchased in December of 2021, started emitting smoke without being connected to a charger. The phone was left idle on his bed while he was away making tea. When he returned, he managed to grab a video of his phone emitting smoke. The video and images shared with 91mobiles show the damage could have happened near the battery section, with the middle section of the rear panel completely charred. The impact of the blast was so severe that at least 2-3 layers of the mattress (where the phone was kept) were burnt. The back cover, which presumably appears to be made of rubber, was seen glued to the bedsheet because of the fire. Ans) There are no specific warnings from a device before it explodes, other than hissing or popping sounds coming from the phone or the smell of burning plastic or chemicals. These indications point toward the phone being damaged and may explode if not taken care of properly. Users can also look out for excessive heat coming from the device, especially when charging. Unplug it immediately if you think it is burning hot while charging. A swollen battery can also be a big warning sign as it happens only when it is damaged or if its internal components have degraded. Keep a lookout for these changes in your device’s shape like -- a protruding screen, an enlarged seam, or a distended chassis, that may no longer allow the phone to sit normally on a flat surface. If you are concerned about your device’s battery just turn it off and take it for service immediately as most modern phones don’t allow users to remove the battery. 7) Can you prevent a phone from exploding? Ans) Users are helpless if the issue is a manufacturing defect or a naturally degrading power source. But if that’s not the case, there are certain steps that you can take to mitigate some of the load that you are putting on your phone’s battery. Typically, manufacturers test their batteries for faulty components, but imperfections can be present in cheaply made units which can cause a device to overheat. In the case of reluctant battery construction, there are not many fixes that average users can avail of. However, you can always follow some steps to maintain the health of your device and avoid a fire. These steps include -- using a phone case to avoid physical damage, avoiding extreme outdoor temperatures, charging the phone in a place from where you sleep, maintaining good battery hygiene (charging your phone between 30-80 per cent battery life), using cables and chargers recommended by the company as well as taking care of them and even looking out for malware that can potentially damage the phone by overheating the battery.
