The popular YouTuber selected winners across 10 categories with Apple’s latest base model unexpectedly taking the spotlight in this category. Yes, the iPhone 16 has earned the surprising title of Best Small Phone of 2024.

MKBHD explained that the definition of a “small phone” has evolved as many brands including Apple have deliberately moved away from compact designs. Apple discontinued its mini-sized iPhone lineup in 2022 replacing it with the larger iPhone 14 Plus.

However, the iPhone 16 with its 6.1-inch display now seems to be small by today’s standards. Marques highlighted how the iPhone 16 combines features from Apple’s Pro lineup with a lightweight and compact design.

“It’s the ideal phone for people who want a powerful phone without a huge screen,” he said.

In other categories, the iPhone 16 Pro took home the Best Camera award. Marques acknowledged that phones like the Vivo X200 Pro have more advanced sensors, but he believes Apple excels with its overall package, especially for professional video recording.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra won the prestigious Phone of the Year title.

Marques described the S24 Ultra as “boring” due to its lack of groundbreaking features like foldable designs but also praised its all-around excellence. “Great screen, a great battery, great cameras,” and improvements such as the anti-reflective coating made it his most-used phone of the year.
