Users can generate new card numbers and security codes within Wallet app. Feature currently available to select iOS 17.4 beta testers, public launch expected in early March. In the latest beta release of iOS 17.4, Apple introduces a notable update for users of Apple Cash, integrating the option for a virtual card number. This development, highlighted by user discussions on Reddit, aims to extend the utility of Apple Cash beyond its traditional confines. iOS 17.4: Apple Cash Coming to iPhones iOS 17.4: Apple Cash Coming to iPhones Previously limited to transactions via Apple Pay, Apple Cash—a prepaid debit service—now embraces broader usability by allowing transactions in scenarios where Apple Pay might not be accepted. Historically, Apple Cash functioned without an associated card number, focusing its use on Apple Pay transactions, peer-to-peer transfers, bank transfers, and payments towards Apple Card balances. The introduction of a virtual card number with iOS 17.4 marks a pivotal expansion, enabling users to engage in online shopping through alternative payment portals where Apple Pay is not supported. This enhancement mirrors the virtual card functionality of the Apple Card credit card, offering users the ability to generate and manage card numbers and security codes directly within the Wallet app. The update will give users increased flexibility and convenience for Apple Cash users, reflecting Apple's ongoing commitment to enhancing its financial services ecosystem. Although this feature is currently in the testing phase with iOS 17.4 beta users, it has not yet been rolled out to all Apple Cash accounts.
