Nothing is gearing up for the launch of its new TWS earbuds, the Ear (2). The company has already confirmed some key details about its upcoming premium TWS, which is set to launch on March 22. Ahead of the official launch, Nothing also revealed some details about the flagship phone, the Phone (2). The Nothing Phone (1) successor is set to launch later this year. Nothing confirmed that its upcoming smartphone will offer a more premium experience than the original version. Now, a new leak has revealed some key performance unit details of the upcoming Nothing smartphone. Nothing CEO Carl Pei recently confirmed that the Phone (2) will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series SoC. At the time of the confirmation during the Mobile World Congress 2023, the Nothing CEO did not reveal any exact details about the chipset. However, thanks to a post by a Qualcomm executive, the processor details of the Phone (2) have leaked online. In the world of technology, leaks and rumors are not uncommon. But when an executive from a major company accidentally reveals unknown specifications of an upcoming product, it can cause quite a headache for the company. The accident happened during MWC 2023 when Qualcomm's SVP and GM of Mobile, Compute and XR business unit, Alex Katouzian, posted an update on Linkedin congratulating the Nothing team on using the Snapdragon 8 series chip on the Nothing Phone (2). However, eagle-eyed readers quickly noticed that the post included the mention of the exact SoC being used, which will be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The mention was just by the way but it was enough to cause excitement among fans of the Nothing community. While the mention of the chip was quickly removed from the post, it was too late. We managed to grab a screenshot, as you can see below. Nothing Phone (2) To Get Flagship-Grade SoC The Nothing Phone (2) is set to get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC under the hood. The details were leaked by Qualcomm’s SVP and GM of Mobile, Compute and XR business unit, Alex Katouzian. The details were posted on Katouzian’s LinkedIn. Minutes after making the post live, the details were deleted. The post confirms that the Phone (2) will get a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. While being a generation old, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC is still quite fast and efficient for most use cases. It would be interesting to see when the Nothing smartphone launches. If the device launches by the end of 2023, the Phone (2)’s performance unit might feel a bit dated as Qualcomm might also launch the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 SoC in the second half of the year. Nothing has already sold over 650,000 units of the Nothing Phone (1) to date. The company plans to offer a premium experience with the second-generation product of its premium smartphone. The company will have an added emphasis on the software this time around to ensure that the device offers a premium user experience. With a faster processor and what is said to offer a premium software experience, the upcoming Nothing flagship phone might get a premium price tag too. The Phone (1)’s price has been fluctuating between Rs 25,000 and Rs 37,000 in India. It would not be a surprise if the Phone (2) has a higher price tag. The Phone (2) might get the same design as its predecessor — albeit with minor changes here and there. The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to be the next smartphone from the company, following in the footsteps of its first success story, the Nothing Phone (1). The company also did reveal that it sold more than 650,000 units of the Nothing Phone (1) to date, which is impressive considering it was a first-generation product. Apart from the accidental reveal, we do not know much else about what the Nothing Phone (2) might bring to the table. Nothing CEO Carl Pei earlier confirm that the upcoming phone will be 'more premium' than their first smartphone, so we can speculate a better build quality, a redesigned Glyph interface, and better hardware under the hood. The chipset is already getting a major upgrade, going from Snapdragon 778G+ to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. These upgrades will undoubtedly bring up the price of the phone, but we'll have to wait and see on that. In the end, the accidental reveal by the Qualcomm executive only added to the hype of the next smartphone by Nothing. It showed that even major companies can make mistakes and let slip important information, and this gives the fans of the new startup something to look forward to. The next phone is scheduled to launch by the third quarter of this year, so there is still plenty of time before everything falls into place. While the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor is still a very capable chip, when it comes to face value, it is still an older generation processor, which some might find a little off-putting when it comes to a smartphone releasing in 2023. As stated before, this is still a very capable processor that packs more than enough power when it comes to daily use and even gaming. In our tests of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 versus the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, we found that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was better, but not by that much in certain areas. Now, as and when the phone launch nears, we can expect the company to reveal more details about the upcoming smartphone. Meanwhile, Nothing has confirmed Ear (2) and revealed that it is launching on March 22 globally. The company has been teasing the Nothing Ear (2) for a while now. There are a few things interesting about the post. Firstly, that phone is nowhere near launch. We haven’t even gotten any official announcement about it. What’s more notable, however, is the mention of the processor that this phone is set to use. “Congratulations Cari Pei and the Nothing Team on the launch on the launch of Nothing Phone2 with #qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.” Since this bit of information came from an executive over at Qualcomm, we can be sure that it’s correct. You’d still want to keep an eye out in case anything changes or if Katouzian was actually mistaken. So, if this phone uses a processor so powerful, then it will definitely be able to go toe-to-toe with the top phones of the year. Sure, it’s half of a generation behind, but the differences in day-to-day performance will be negligible. With a higher-performing chip, we’re also expecting a higher price tag along with it. Not only is Nothing using a more expensive SoC, but the diminishing economy means that manufacturing the phone will be even more expensive. We’re not sure how much the phone will cost when it hits the shelves, but let’s hope that it’s close to that of the Nothing Phone (1). Of course, for those that were hoping for and wanted the best possible internals inside the Nothing Phone 2, it looks like that probably won't be happening this year. Again, as stated before, this isn't a huge blow to the handset, and by using an older generation processor, there's always the chance, or there's a likely chance that the price of the device will debut much lower than competitors offerings.
