It is a mid-generation upgrade that PlayStation fans who are looking for something powerful have been waiting for a while. However, the launch of PS5 Pro now presents a difficult question for customers who just want to buy a PlayStation but can get confused because we already have a PS5 Slim. If you too are wondering which console is the better choice or should you be spending extra for the PS5 Pro, we are here to make things simple for you. In this post, we are breaking down the key differences between PS5 Pro and Slim and answering the question - which console should you buy? PS5 Pro vs. PS5 Slim - Pricing in India Although the official Indian price of the PS5 Pro hasn’t been released yet, it is expected to cost between Rs. 65,000 and 70,000. This is speculative on the basis of the global price of $699.99. Meanwhile, the PS5 Slim (Digital Edition) is priced at Rs. 44,990 and offers 1TB of high-speed SSD storage. (Image Credit - Sony) One of the biggest design changes is the removal of the disk drive on the PS5 Pro. It reaffirms Sony’s strategic shift towards digital games. However, if you are one of those who prefer physical discs, the option to buy a separate disk drive for $79.99 will be available. Other design elements, such as the size and shape, are similar to the original PS5. The PS5 Pro comes with a finned cover plate. The company says customizable face plates will be launched later. As for the number of ports, the PS5 Pro has two USB-C ports on the front and one USB-C port on the back. It also has a USB-A port. Compared to this, the PS5 Slim offers two USB-C ports on both the front and rear. PS5 Pro vs. PS5 Slim - Performance Upgrades The PS5 Pro as expected boasts significant performance upgrades as compared to the PS5 Slim. Faster GPU promises smoother gameplay at the best possible graphics and frame rate. (Image credit - Sony) Its GPU renders games up to 45% faster, with 67% more computing units and 28% faster RAM. This means smoother gameplay with high-quality graphics and frame rates. While both consoles PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim share the same CPU and storage speed, the PS5 Pro promises superior gaming performance. This is particularly true in terms of the 4K at 60 FPS it offers. PS5 Pro’s ray tracing has twice or thrice the speeds of the regular PS5. (Image credit - Sony) The PS5 Pro also introduces advanced ray tracing. This provides more realistic lighting and reflections in games. This is also up to three times faster than on the regular PS5. AI-Driven Image Upscaling The PS5 Pro features PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This is an AI-powered upscaling tool that makes images sharper and more detailed. This Super Resolution helps the GPU maintain high frame rates without compromising on visual clarity. Game scenes with intricate backgrounds are also enhanced with this technology. While casual gamers may not immediately notice this difference, pro gamers will appreciate the enhanced image quality. PS5 Pro vs. PS5 Slim - Storage and Download Speeds The PS5 Pro doubles the internal storage with 2TB space. This is ideal storage for downloading large and high-performance games. Moreover, the Pro model also supports Wi-Fi 7, allowing for much faster download speeds compared to the PS5 Slim’s Wi-Fi 6. However, it is important to note that users will need a compatible router and internet plan to take full advantage of this feature. Conclusion: Which Console Is Right for You? The PS5 Pro’s superior performance, enhanced ray tracing, and larger storage make it a solid upgrade for serious gamers. It also includes AI-driven image upscaling, Wi-Fi 7 for faster downloads, and 2TB of storage, which is double of PS5 Slim's 1TB storage. However, it is important to take into consideration that in order to fully enjoy its features, you’ll need an advanced monitor with at least a 60Hz refresh rate and ideally an 8K output support. The PS5 Pro is designed for more serious gamers or professionals who require higher performance and sharper graphics. So, we suggest if you’re a casual gamer or already own a PS5, upgrading to the PS5 Pro might not be necessary. FAQs What is the price of the PS5 Pro?
