Apple is gearing up for its annual developer conference, WWDC 2023 June 10th. Rumour has it that they'll be unveiling their much-anticipated AR/VR headset, the Apple Reality Pro. But that's not all - Apple is expected to introduce realityOS software for the headset and the next-generation iPhone software version. The company is also set to reveal iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 for its iPhone and iPad models. A report by iPhoneSoft suggests that three iPad models may lose support with the upcoming iPadOS 17. This is in line with previous rumours predicting the iPhone models expected to lose support with iOS 17. The report outlines the iPad models that will no longer support iPadOS 17 and claims that users should keep in mind that iPad models launched after 2017 are expected to be compatible with the new software. However, older models may not support the latest features and capabilities. It's important to note that while a device may be listed as compatible with a new software update, it may not necessarily support all features offered by that software. The report also suggests that all iPhone models capable of running iOS 16 will support iOS 17, although a previous report stated that three iPhone models will lose support with the new software update. iPad models which will not support iPadOS 17 As for the iPad model which will not support iPasOS 17, it is speculated that three iPad models - the iPad 5th gen, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro 1st gen, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 1st gen - will no longer support iOS 17 once the new software is released. The list of iPad models likely to be compatible with iOS 17 includes the iPad Air 3rd gen and later, the iPad 6th gen and later, the iPad mini 5th gen and later, and any iPad Pro model released in 2017 or later. As for the awaited launches coming at WWDC 2023, all the eyes are on the upcoming lineup for Macbook and AR or Vr headsets. A report by 9To5Mac suggests that Apple is planning to launch two models of the next-generation MacBook Air - a 13-inch and a 15-inch variant - powered by Apple's new M3 chip. The same chip will also reportedly be used in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. While it was previously reported that the company planned to announce a 15-inch MacBook Air in April with an M2 series chip, the source now claims that Apple will use its latest M3 chip for its new laptops. If Apple does plan to unveil these 2023 MacBooks with the new chip, there is a chance that the launch will take place at Apple's WWDC event. Additionally, Apple has long been rumoured to launch its Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) headsets but has yet to announce them. It is speculated that Apple could finally unveil its AR and VR devices at this event, as suggested by the official teaser image showing headset lenses. However, there is no confirmation of this and users are advised to take the details with a pinch of salt. There is a possibility that Apple could skip the launch of its headset for this event. Like iPhones, Apple has an operating system designed by Apple specifically for their iPad devices. The OS is optimised for the larger screen and also works well with the powerful hardware of the iPad. However, some of the older iPad might soon lose iPadOS support this year. According to a report from iPhoneSoft, owners of the first 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will not be able to use the upcoming iPadOS 17. This isn’t new considering that most brands drop software support for older-generation models. The iPads that are likely to be compatible with iPadOS 17 include * iPad Air 3rd gen and later * iPad 6th gen and later * iPad mini 5th gen and later * iPad Pro model which was released in 2017 and post that. The first-generation iPad Pro models are equipped with the A9x chip and the fifth-generation iPad with the A9 chipset. These will remain on iPadOS 16 operating system, according to the report. Apple might be planning on aligning iPadOS with iOS, which also dropped support for the A9 chip when it released iOS 16. Not just Apple, every tech brand, including Samsung, Google, and others drop support to older generation models keeping in mind the hardware that might not support/handle new features. Apple usually drops support for models when it is about to introduce new features, and leaves them with the previous generation release. However, these models usually receive updates for security but not at frequent intervals. If reports are to be believed, iOS 17 is said to focus on stability rather than features but it can’t be said for certain. Apple might spring a surprise and introduce a host of new features at the WWDC 2023 conference. iPads losing iPadOS 17 Compatibility Here are the three iPads that are rumored to be cut off by iPadOS 17: * iPad 5th gen * 9.7-inch iPad Pro 1st gen * 12.9-inch iPad Pro 1st gen iPads with iPadOS 17 Compatibility And here are the iPads that are said to keep support with iPadOS 17: * iPad Air 3rd gen and later * iPad 6th gen and later * iPad mini 5th gen and later * iPad Pro 2017 and later Another thing to keep in mind, even though iPads from 2017 and on should be compatible with iPadOS 17, older devices generally don’t support all the latest features and capabilities that come with the newest software. Meanwhile, for iPhone, there are conflicting reports. The first rumor we saw said three iPhones will lose support with iOS 17 while a second rumor said all iPhones that can run iOS 16 will be able to run iOS 17.
