If you look at the efficiency cores, same, we’re at the absolute best. We’re leading in a big way. And then when we look at the configuration, whether it’s a silicon that goes into the iPhone or the iPad or the Mac, we have lots of simulation and performance modeling tools, and we look at actual data. And then we take into account, for example, the battery size for a product, the power delivery system for a product, the thermal envelope for the product, because overbuilding, again, is wasteful. For example, for the phone, we came to the conclusion that two P4E, so two performance cores and four efficiency cores, meets the needs of what that device requires, because we have the absolute best single-thread, and the efficiency cores are so good for other tasks, and that configuration works.” iPhone 16 Pro to Have ProRAW Photos in JPEG-XL Format In a recent 9to5Mac report, it has now been confirmed that iPhone 16 Pro ProRAW settings will have the option of JPEG-XL images. The 9to5Mac team has seen the code in the firmware to make the confirmation public. Capturing pictures in JPEG-XL format will allow users to compress the RAW images. It will generate smaller files without compromising on quality. This feature will be an added advantage for professional photographers. It supports modern standards including transparency, HDR, and wider colour gamut. The iPhone 16 Pro will have the following options image format options - JPEG Lossless (Most Compatible) JPEG-XL Lossy JPEG-XL Lossless Storage for each format takes up - 11 MB for JPEG-XL Lossy ProRAW at 12 MP 18 MB for JPEG-XL Lossless ProRAW at 12 MP 20 MB for JPEG-XL Lossy ProRAW at 48 MP 46 MB for JPEG-XL Lossless ProRAW at 48 MP To compare, a 48MP ProRAW photo taken on the iPhone 15 Pro takes up around 75MB. It is important to note that only iPhone 16 Pro models can take JPEG-XL photos. However, Apple devices running iOS 17 and later version or macOS 14 and later can view images in this format. iPhone 16 Pro - More Camera Features The iPhone 16 Pro can now shoot 4K video at 120 frames per second. He further noted that other aspects of the iPhone will also benefit from upgraded RAM. Srouji explains, “Our goal is to build the best products, delivering the absolute best user experience. As it relates to Apple Intelligence, DRAM is one aspect. And when we look at what we’re building, whether it’s silicon, hardware, or software, we don’t want to be wasteful in many ways. We have lots of data that tells us what is going to enable a certain feature, and Apple Intelligence is one of those very, very important features that we want to enable. And we look at different configurations, both for computation and memory bandwidth and memory capacity. And then we make the right trade-off and balance of what actually makes the most sense. So, Apple Intelligence was a major feature that led us to believe that we need to get to 8GB. But having said that, the 8GB is going to help immensely among other applications, including gaming, high-end gaming, AAA-titled games, and high-end gaming on device. So, I think it’s going to be really, really beneficial. The other thing to keep in mind, this is one of the benefits of having the software and the silicon and the product fully integrated, is that the software team, our excellent software team, will optimize not only for compute, they’ll also optimize for the memory footprint of each application. So, they don’t end up also wasting memory. While the first Geekbench results for the iPhone 16 were a bit underwhelming, we now have new benchmarks offering more promising results for Apple’s latest A18 Pro chip. The latest Geekbench result comes from the iPhone17,1. This is reportedly the model identifier for the iPhone 16 Pro. Powered by the A18 Pro chip, this model showed a single-core score of 3429 and a multi-core score of 8790. Here’s how we can analyse these results - A 15-20% increase in speed compared to the iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro chip A 30-35% jump from the A16 Bionic chip in the standard iPhone 15. A18 Pro vs. Apple’s M1 Chip The results also show how the A18 Pro chip is approaching the performance levels of Apple's M1 chip. The A18 Pro outperforms the M1 chip in most Geekbench tests. To compare, the average multi-core score for the M1 chip in the iPad Air is around 8351, based on the latest 10 results. The A18 Pro's score is 8790. This is about 5% higher than that. Kuo’s analysis only cements the previous prediction by many experts regarding the dwindling demand for new iPhones. According to Kuo, Apple this year is facing less demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, something already predicted. However, what many experts might have missed is iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are performing better than expected on the pre-order window. Apple is seeing more sales compared to last year's iPhone base models. Kuo’s analysis was based on ship times on Apple’s website and a “supply chain survey.” Here are the key findings of Kuo’s analysis - ● iPhone 16 Pro Max demand is down by 16% from last year. ● iPhone 16 Pro demand is down by 27% from last year. ● iPhone 16 Plus demand is up by 48% from last year. ● iPhone 16 demand is up by 10% from last year. ● The iPhone 16 series sold around 37 million units altogether. This number for whole iPhone 16 Series unit sales is down by 12.7% from the iPhone 15 lineup on the first weekend. It appears more people are interested in getting their hands on a regular iPhone than the pros models. As for the supply side, Kuo highlighted that 6 million units of iPhone 16 Pro Max were produced before launch. This is up by 106% from the number of units Apple produced for the precious iPhone 15 Pro Max mode. The increased supply of units is due to higher yields on the tetraprism camera (5x telephoto). Kuo suggested that Apple could move in a more aggressive manner for its 2025 strategies if dwindling demands for iPhone 16 continue.
