Tech companies taking a friendly dig at each other is nothing new. Though it looks like Samsung is in a real “edgy” mood lately. The Korean brand this time is teasing Apple by calling the iPhone 16 Pro heavy
In a new Instagram ad, Samsung promotes its Galaxy S25 Edge by quietly mocking the iPhone 16 Pro’s weight. The ad highlights the Edge’s super-light 163g build and thin 5.8mm design, subtly fueling the ongoing race for slimmer phones, especially with Apple’s rumoured iPhone 17 Air on the horizon.

Samsung’s known for poking fun at Apple, from foldable phone ads like “On the Fence” to making fun of missing chargers.
In its latest post on @samsungmobile, the brand compares the Galaxy S25 Edge to an unnamed “Other Phone”, clearly meant to be the iPhone 16 Pro. In the video, both phones are tied to helium balloons. As the balloons pop, the 163g Galaxy S25 Edge floats gently, while the 199g iPhone 16 Pro drops to the ground. Despite both phones having titanium frames, the Edge is 36g lighter and just 1g heavier than the standard 6.2-inch S25.
The Galaxy S25 Edge comes packed with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and a 200MP camera, priced at $1,099. Samsung claims it will “accelerate innovation” in the race to make phones slimmer. Fans also appreciate the phone’s IP68 rating and Gorilla Armor 2 protection.
However, some users have raised concerns about its 3,900mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the iPhone’s 4,000mAh.
Meanwhile, Apple is probably getting ready to respond with the iPhone 17 Air, expected in September 2025. Rumours suggest it could be under 6mm thick and feature the new A19 chip and iOS 19’s AI-powered battery optimisations, possibly giving the Edge some real competition in both slimness and battery life.
Samsung’s playful ad may land well for now, but things could shift if Apple delivers something even lighter. The Galaxy S25 Edge rolls out in Korea and China on May 23, with a global release set for May 30.
