Samsung is reportedly in the final stages of closing a major deal to preload Perplexity AI’s technology on its future devices. According to a report by Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter say the plan is to integrate Perplexity’s AI-powered search into Samsung products to boost the company’s AI features.
The agreement could lead to Perplexity’s app and assistant being preloaded on upcoming Samsung devices, starting with the Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2026. Samsung also wants to make it a default assistant option for users.
As part of the discussions, Samsung is looking to build Perplexity’s search tools directly into its web browser, offering users a more powerful and AI-driven search experience.
There are also plans to bring Perplexity’s features to Bixby, Samsung’s existing virtual assistant. However, final terms of the deal are still being worked out and could change.
Samsung is also expected to become one of the top investors in Perplexity’s upcoming funding round. The AI startup is reportedly aiming to raise $500 million at a $14 billion valuation.
This move could help Samsung reduce its dependence on Google and take a more diverse approach to AI, something Apple has also been exploring.
For Perplexity, this could become its biggest mobile deal yet, following a recent partnership with Motorola. Meanwhile, Apple has also been in talks with Perplexity to potentially integrate the AI search tool into Siri, offering users an alternative to Google Search and ChatGPT.
It’s still unclear how Samsung’s potential partnership might affect those discussions.
As for impact, it is well-known that Google has been under investigation by the DOJ for unfair practices like integrating its Assistant or Gemini as the default on Android devices. As multiple reports pointed out, a possible Samsung deal with Perplexity AI could actually work in Google’s favour from this perspective.
