The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra has been the subject of multiple leaks and the latest one sheds light on its potential design changes. We are specifically hearing reports of a much chunkier camera bump. While Samsung is reportedly making the phone thinner overall, the tradeoff seems to be an enlarged camera island that sticks out noticeably more than its predecessor. Here’s more on that.
The leak comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe, who shared new details on X (formerly Twitter) along with a render of the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s side profile. According to the leak, Samsung has managed to slim down the phone’s chassis to 7.9mm, compared to the 8.2mm thickness of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, the camera lenses will reportedly protrude much further than before.
On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the camera lenses extended about 2.4mm from the glass back. For the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung is said to be nearly doubling that, with the camera module sticking out by a significant 4.5mm.
This means that at its thickest point, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could measure 12.4mm, compared to 10.6mm on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and roughly 12mm on rivals like the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10.
While a larger bump typically hints at bigger or more advanced sensors, Ice Universe claims this might not be the case here.
According to the leaker, Samsung will continue using the 1/2.52-inch 50MP telephoto sensor. It is a unit that could end up being the smallest telephoto sensor in a global flagship when the S26 series launches next year. This suggests that the enlarged module may be more about preparing for future hardware upgrades than delivering immediate improvements.
If accurate, this design could make the Galaxy S26 Ultra less stable when placed flat on a table. It could be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which tends to wobble without a case due to its uneven surface.
Answer. The S26 Ultra may feature a thinner 7.9mm body but a significantly larger camera bump, protruding 4.5mm, nearly double that of the S25 Ultra.
Answer. Despite the larger camera module, leaks suggest Samsung will retain the 50MP 1/2.52-inch telephoto sensor, possibly prepping for future upgrades.
Answer. Yes, some reports suggest the thicker camera bump may cause the phone to wobble when placed flat, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s uneven surface without a case.
