The Galaxy S25 Edge has now hit the store shelves and at just 5.8mm thickness and only 163g weight, the phone is grabbing attention for its ultra-slim frame. While critics have pointed out the battery compromises, Samsung is now revealing details of the serious engineering that went behind the ultra-slim S25 Edge.

The Korean brand has shared a detailed post titled “Behind Slim: How Samsung Engineered the Galaxy S25 Edge To Break Boundaries” on its Newsroom. It has basically shared how it managed to make the phone this thin without sacrificing performance or durability. Here are some key points to note.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – Ultra-Slim Yet Durable

The S25 Edge is the slimmest S-series phone Samsung has ever made. It features a titanium frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front (a first for the S25 series), and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back. Even with a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display, the same size as the S25+, it still feels lightweight in the hand.

Explaining how the phone is not just slim but also strong, Samsung said, “To make this possible, the idea of a smartphone was reimagined from the ground up. The Galaxy S25 Edge’s internal structure features a new mounting system, allowing components to be placed with precision down to 0.1mm. But the new device isn’t just slim — it’s tough as well. Premium materials, including a titanium frame as seen in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, make up the Galaxy S25 Edge’s robust exterior. It’s further reinforced by Corning® Gorilla® Glass Ceramic 2, a new display cover material strengthened with Samsung’s processing techniques. It’s a careful balance of design and durability – all without compromise.”

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – Camera Internal Setup

Fitting a 200MP camera and the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip into such a thin design wasn’t easy. Samsung had to come up with a new internal mounting system, working with 0.1mm precision after several prototypes.

The 200MP camera, which is also featured in the S25 Ultra, is now over 10% thinner. Samsung achieved this by redesigning the autofocus and optical image stabilisation systems, along with introducing a two-layer camera housing.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – Cooling System

Keeping the phone cool in such a slim body was another big challenge. Samsung still managed to fit in a vapour chamber that’s 10% larger than the one in the S25+.

It also added a special ‘hole structure’ design, a cutout in the metal frame that lets heat from the chipset move directly to the vapour chamber. A customised thermal interface helps manage heat from the phone’s other components.

FAQs

Q1. How did Samsung make the Galaxy S25 Edge so thin without compromising durability?

Answer. Samsung engineered the phone with a titanium frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back. Despite its slim 5.8mm thickness, these materials ensure durability while keeping the weight at just 163g.

Q2. How did Samsung fit a 200MP camera and a powerful chipset into such a slim device?

Answer. Samsung redesigned the 200MP camera with a thinner autofocus and optical image stabilization system, introducing a two-layer camera housing. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip was mounted using a precise 0.1mm internal system after multiple prototypes.

Q3. How does the Galaxy S25 Edge stay cool despite its ultra-slim frame?

Answer. Samsung included a 10% larger vapour chamber compared to the S25+ and designed a special ‘hole structure’ in the metal frame to transfer heat directly to the vapour chamber. A customized thermal interface further helps in managing heat efficiently.
