Chinese smartphone brand POCO has officially launched the Poco X7 5G smartphone in India. It comes exactly a year after the predecessor X6 series was launched in the country. We remember the X6 series for being a performance-focused phone and it appears that Poco intends to keep its track record intact. In case you are wondering how is the new device, well…. We have been using X7 5G for about a week now and this is our hands-on Poco X7 5G review. So, without further ado, let’s get into it. We had the Yellow colour variant for this review, which sports a black and yellow dual-tone design. It immediately grabs attention and honestly, it is kind of hard to miss even from afar. The square-shaped camera module sits right in the top centre and is neatly designed with four lens cuts that give it a clean look. But what really stands out is the leather finish back panel. The stitching details on both corners look nice and add a premium feel to the phone. There's the huge golden shiny POCO branding in the middle of the back. We must say that it is a bold design choice and definitely eye-catching. If you are the kind of user who wants their phone to stand out, you will surely like this design. About the build quality, the phone feels solid in hand. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and it is definitely reassuring to know that everyday accidents like slipping off your hand or rubbing against sharp edges aren’t a big deal here. You also don’t have to stress over scratches or cracks. With IP66, IP68, and even IP69* ratings, you don’t have to hesitate to take the phone out in the rain or accidentally drop it in the water. Poco has also adopted what it is calling a shock-absorbing design with energy-absorbing foam and a reinforced polymer buffer. On top of that, the steel-reinforced mainboard adds another layer of security. It’s clear that Poco has thought about all the little mishaps that happen in real life. In a nutshell, the Poco X7 5G is a mix of bold style and solid durability. Poco X7 5G - Display Poco X7 5G - Display The display on the Poco X7 5G is a beautiful 1.5K AMOLED 3D Curved Display. It makes everything from watching movies to playing games feel quite immersive. The colours appear rich and the visuals are crystal clear. Moreover, the 3D curved edges don’t just make the phone look premium, they also make swiping and scrolling feel smoother. The screen simply flows through the fingertips. The display comes with a peak of 3000 nits. We tried using the phone outdoors and the performance was quite good. You can easily see the screen whether you’re outside on a sunny day or simply in any bright environment. The display automatically adjusts its brightness with 20,000 levels of fine-tuning. For binge-watching shows or gaming, the Dolby Vision certification makes every frame look stunning, with extra depth and clarity. We felt the screen was super responsive and didn’t experience any particular lag while tapping or swiping. The display response is instant. Whether you’re in a fast-paced game or just navigating through apps, the display keeps up effortlessly. Plus, the WetTouch Display 2.0 makes sure even if your fingers are wet or oily, the screen stays responsive. The in-display fingerprint scanner is seamless too. Poco has also added some eye-friendliness to this display with TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly and Flicker-Free technologies. It definitely feels easier on your eyes, even during late-night scrolling sessions. Poco X7 5G - Performance Poco X7 5G - Performance When it comes to performance, the Poco X7 5G depends on MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset built on a cutting-edge 4nm architecture. After using the phone for about a week, we can say that the Poco X7 5G keeps up with everyday smartphone use effortlessly. Whether you’re gaming, editing photos or juggling through multiple apps, it handles everything well. We didn’t notice any annoying lags or freezing in the phone per se. It feels quick and responsive with minimal apps opening time and quite fluid screen transitions. Games like Genshin Impact on medium settings felt quite smooth on the device as well. There was minor heating after about 20 minutes of heavy use but nothing that you don’t expect. We put the phone through all major benchmarking platforms and it managed itself quite well. Poco will provide three major Android updates and four years of security patches, so you are sorted on that front. It is optimised to take crisp pictures keeping natural tones as the main focus. The large f/1.59 aperture pulls in more light making low-light photography surprisingly good. Even in tricky lighting, the images come out bright and clear, which is impressive. What makes this Poco X7 camera setup really fun is the addition of AI-powered features. The AI Portrait Modes let you play around giving the pictures a professional edge with beautifully blurred backgrounds. You can use the AI features to tweak the lighting, so your subject pops perfectly against the background. It reduces noise and enhances detail, so your night-time shots don’t look grainy or dull. But even after the AI work, the photos hardly look artificial. It comes with a dual-video feature as well. We tried shooting some videos in different lighting conditions using the 4K @30fps settings. It can support sessions of gaming, streaming or just scrolling through social media while keeping up with your busy lifestyle. It comes with a 45W Turbo Charge support. We were able to get the phone all powered up from under 20 per cent in just about 50 minutes. The good thing is that Poco is bundling the 45W power adapter so you can easily utilise the maximum fast charge capability of the phone. It also has Smart Charging Engine 2.0 to protect the battery and keep it durable for a longer time. The brand claims that even after 1600 charge cycles, the battery still retains over 80% of its capacity. Verdict - Should You Buy Poco X7 5G? Verdict - Should You Buy Poco X7 5G? Poco X7 5G is a great choice if you are looking for a dependable smartphone with a unique bold design, premium display specs, a good battery and a sharp camera system.
