Qualcomm is all set to challenge the industry’s biggest chip players. with its upcoming Snapdragon Elite chipset. Qualcomm acquired a startup formed by ex-Apple staffers named Nuvia back in 2021. Since then, they have integrated Nuvia’s Oryon CPU core into its new chip. The combination promises better performance and power efficiency.
The Snapdragon Elite is expected to replace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as the flagship chipset for the company.
Recently, a leaked promotional poster for the Xiaomi 15 series surfaced online and confirmed that it will be one of the first devices to feature the new Snapdragon Elite chip. Xiaomi is likely to unveil the smartphone on October 23.
The Snapdragon Elite is how Qualcomm enters new territory as the chipmaker goes from using its ARM-licensed cores to the custom-designed Oryon cores.
Leaker Digital Chat Station shared an image hinting that Qualcomm’s upcoming chipset will be known as the Snapdragon Elite.
Earlier this month, benchmark scores of Samsung S25 Ultra, which is expected to feature the Snapdragon Elite chipset, were leaked online. The leaked scores showed how the new Qualcomm chip outperforms Apple’s A18 Pro in multi-core tests. It also nearly matched the Apple chip in single-core performance.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra scored impressive benchmark scores, including a peak clock speed of 4.47 GHz.
This new chipset also delivers a 56% improvement in GPU performance compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is also better optimised for AI processing. This means the chipset is designed to handle more modern and demanding tasks.
As mentioned the Xiaomi 15 Pro will be the first smartphone to debut with the new Snapdragon Elite. The smartphone, as per rumours, will come with features such as 90W fast charging, Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0, a 6,000mAh battery, and IP69 water and dust resistance.
The standard Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra are also part of the Xiaomi 15 Series alongside the 15 Pro. Although no official confirmation is out yet, we can expect more details to emerge as we move closer to the expected launch next month.
