OpenAI has launched a major promotion for Indian users, offering 12 months of ChatGPT Go completely free of charge starting November 4, 2025. The limited-time offer opens access to GPT-5, advanced image generation, enhanced file analysis, and custom GPT creation, basically all premium tools usually reserved for paid subscribers. The move marks OpenAI’s most significant push yet into one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets. Here are all the details you need to know.
The free subscription is exclusively available to users in India. Eligible participants include new ChatGPT users, current free-plan users, and existing ChatGPT Go subscribers with active accounts. Those on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise plans must cancel their current subscription and wait for the billing period to end before redeeming the offer.
To activate the free plan, users must add a valid payment method such as a credit card or UPI.
While no subscription fee will be charged during the offer period, UPI users may see a temporary ₹1 hold per billing cycle, which will be refunded. This nominal amount is required for payment verification purposes.
At the end of the 12-month period, OpenAI will automatically renew the ChatGPT Go subscription at the standard monthly rate using the payment method on file, unless the user cancels before the renewal date.

Once done, your 12-month free subscription will activate and auto-renewal monthly at no cost.
Once done, the free plan activates instantly.
Apple users will need to wait until next week for App Store availability or activate the offer now via the ChatGPT web portal. Once redeemed, users can access ChatGPT Go features through the iOS app after logging in.
Those who subscribed through ChatGPT’s website or Google Play don’t need to cancel. OpenAI will automatically extend their next billing date by 12 months within the coming week, provided the account remains active.
Emails are being sent to current ChatGPT Go subscribers, saying, “We’ll move your billing date back by 12 months, so you’ll continue getting expanded access to top models, file uploads, and image generation without any action needed from you.”

Apple App Store subscribers must cancel their current plan, wait until the billing period ends, and then re-subscribe during the promotional period through the App Store or web.
Users already billed for the ongoing cycle will still pay for that month with the 12-month free period starting from the next billing cycle.
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s affordable mid-tier plan, sitting between the free version and the premium Plus tier. Subscribers enjoy –
While ChatGPT Go offers higher usage limits than the free plan, these may fluctuate depending on system demand. If users cancel before the promotional period ends, access will stop at the end of the 30-day billing cycle and the offer cannot be redeemed again on the same account.
The promotion is available for a limited time and OpenAI may discontinue it without notice. Each eligible account can claim the offer only once.
