OpenAI is finding new ways to expand ChatGPT’s reach across industries and commercialise its AI technology. The company has recently launched a new subscription plan for ChatGPT at $200 per month called ChatGPT Pro. This premium plan is basically for engineering and research fields as use cases of its AI technology.

ChatGPT Pro will be part of OpenAI’s existing subscription tiers which include ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise.

Subscribers to ChatGPT Pro will gain access to OpenAI’s most advanced tools such as unlimited use of the new reasoning models o1, o1 mini, GPT-4o and advanced voice features. Moreover, it includes the o1 pro mode, which leverages enhanced computing power to handle more complex queries.

According to OpenAI, the o1 pro mode outperforms its o1 and o1-preview counterparts on machine learning benchmarks in areas like math, science and coding. This makes the new mode a suitable choice for professionals and researchers who need precise and high-level capabilities.

OpenAI, in its announcement post, explains, “Pro users can access this functionality by selecting o1 pro mode in the model picker and asking a question directly. Since answers will take longer to generate, ChatGPT will display a progress bar and send an in-app notification if you switch away to another conversation.”

With ChatGPT Pro, OpenAI continues to expand its services for demanding users while also maintaining its position as a leader in the AI industry.

ChatGPT Pro Grants

OpenAI has reduced the time to ‘think’ for the full OpenAI o1 model.

OpenAI also announced 10 grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading institutions in the U.S. The first ten grants will be awarded to the following researchers –

Catherine Brownstein, MPH, PhD, Assistant Professor at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School – “specialises in the discovery of new genes for rare and orphan diseases

Justin Reese, PhD, Computer Research Scientist at Berkeley Lab – “uses complex biomedical data to extract new knowledge to address human disease
