OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 15 will launch globally soon, following its scheduled debut in China this October. OnePlus’ global division has revealed that the OnePlus 15 will be available in a special “Sand Storm” colour variant, inspired by desert landscapes. This edition uses aerospace-grade Micro-Arc Oxidation technology, a high-voltage plasma process that forms a ceramic layer on the mid-frame and camera module.

According to OnePlus, this ceramic coating is 3.4 times stronger than aluminium and 1.3 times tougher than titanium, while being more environmentally friendly compared to traditional manufacturing.

The announcement comes amid durability concerns with other premium devices. Apple, for instance, has faced criticism over visible wear around the camera area on some early iPhone 17 Pro units, an issue OnePlus clearly aims to avoid with its tougher material approach.

The Sand Storm edition also introduces a feather-light fibreglass back, combining the cool texture of ceramic with a smooth grip for improved comfort. The goal is to offer durability without compromising on design refinement.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 15 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, making it one of the first global smartphones to feature the chip.
