There’s plenty for OnePlus fans to look forward to when the OnePlus 13 comes around if the rumours of exciting changes to the phone’s camera setup come to fruition.
The main 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor is again tipped to remain the same as the OnePlus 12, but the supporting cast of cameras could get a serious boost.
According to the latest report by tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 13 will continue to feature a triple rear camera setup but with two significant changes.
The rumour mill has revealed that the periscope and ultrawide cameras will abandon their earlier sensors in favour of the newer 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor.
The Sony IMX882 sensor is currently used by mid-tier phones such as the China-exclusive OnePlus Ace 3V and the POCO F6.
For its part, the OnePlus 12 had used a 64MP Omnivision OV64B sensor for its telephoto lens and 48MP Sony IMX581 sensor for its ultrawide camera.
While it’s still a bit too early to say exactly what this shift in sensor will actually translate to in terms of real-world camera performance.
OnePlus loyalists will be hoping this can be an asset in overcoming the low-light limitations the OnePlus 12’s admittedly reliable but somewhat struggling camera system is often plagued by in darker conditions.
The OnePlus 13 is still anticipated to offer 3x optical zoom capabilities.
Along with the camera hardware upgrades, there have been earlier leaks that suggested a redesigned rear camera array of this OnePlus 13.
The reports claim there will be a departure from the current offset design of the phone to a more aesthetically pleasing central circular cutout.
With the OnePlus 13 still several months away from its expected December debut in China, there’s plenty of time before more leaks and confirmations of these exciting camera upgrades come out.
Stay tuned as we get closer to the official unveiling for more details on what promises to be a noteworthy upgrade for OnePlus’s flagship camera capabilities.
