Information about the OnePlus 12R comes from Max Jambor, a leaker with a known track record of accurate leaks concerning not just OnePlus but several other OEMs.
Jambor indicates that the OnePlus 12R will debut in China as the Ace 3 on January 4, followed by a global announcement on January 23.
This global launch will happen in India where the OnePlus 12 will be the main highlight of the show.
While no details on pricing were disclosed, the OnePlus 12R is expected to be priced lower than the OnePlus 12, which begins at CNY 4,299.
Jambor’s leak mentions two colour options for the OnePlus 12R: Iron Gray and Cool Blue.
Renders of these colorways were shared in the leak.
The North American smartphone market, known for its limited competitiveness in mid-range segments, could see the OnePlus 12R as a capable option around the $500 price range.
The OnePlus 12R is rumoured to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and could offer up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
These specifications suggest that the OnePlus 12R could like the OnePlus 11R before it, is to target a more budget gaming market.
According to a MySmartPrice report, the OnePlus 12R might feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, utilizing LTPO technology.
The display is expected to offer a peak brightness of 4500 nits and support for 2160Hz PVM dimming.
The panel is to be supplied by BOE, which has been on a roll with its supplying of displays for the OnePlus 12, Realme GT 5 Pro, and more.
The camera setup on the OnePlus 12R is likely to include a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro shooter.
Of course for software needs the device will pack in the Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 on the device and the battery needs are likely to be taken care of by a 5,000mAh cell that could have 80W fast charging.
As mentioned before these are all leaks and speculations so readers are advised to take it with a grain of salt.
We will update you with the full details once the Ace 3 is made official in China next year.
