After months of anticipation, it looks like we finally have a date for the public release of Nothing OS 4.0. The Android 16-based software update was accessed through the open beta programme that kicked off in late October. The update is positioned as a key pillar in the company’s expanding AI-driven ecosystem. Here’s all we know.
Nothing officially announced that its Android 16-based software update, Nothing OS 4.0, will begin rolling out to the public on Friday, November 21.
The company shared the public release date on the Nothing Community platform, expressing gratitude to early testers. In the announcement, Nothing said, “We know you have been eagerly waiting for the general release and want to say a special thank you to our Beta testers for providing valuable thoughts and feedback. The wait is nearly over.”
Nothing also posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Nothing OS 4.0. Let your phone bring flow to your life. General Release. 21 Nov.”
While an official list of eligible devices is yet to be released, most current-gen Nothing and CMF smartphones are expected to receive the update as part of their promised Android upgrade timelines.
This includes the July 2023 Nothing Phone (2), March 2024 Nothing Phone (2a), July 2024 Nothing Phone (2a) Plus, March 2025 Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, July 2025 Nothing Phone (3), October 2025 Nothing Phone (3) Lite, July 2024 CMF Phone 1, and the April 2025 CMF Phone 2 Pro.
Nothing OS 4.0 brings several enhancements beyond the standard Android 16 upgrades. New features include Extra Dark Mode, Pop-Up View for floating windows, a 2×2 quick settings tile, and two additional lock screen clock designs. The update also adds Essential Apps and allows users to create and share widgets through the Nothing Playground portal.
The Nothing Phone 2 series will gain access to the “Stretch” camera feature, which debuted on the Nothing Phone 3. Another addition is the Lock Glimpse feature, described as a way to “surface timely updates and useful content designed to enhance your experience.” Nothing has clarified that Lock Glimpse is disabled by default on the Nothing Phone 3a series.
The stable version of Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to roll out to supported models later this week.
In related developments, it is now confirmed that the Nothing Phone (3) Lite will launch in India on November 27, 2025. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro. The brand has also confirmed that a special variant tailored for the Indian market will be introduced alongside it.
