London-based tech brand Nothing has unveiled major expansion plans for India. Nothing CEO Carl Pei announces the establishment of a new manufacturing joint venture and commits to an investment of over $100 million across the next three years. The announcement came shortly after Pei’s meeting with Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology. Here’s more on this story.
As part of its strategy, Nothing confirmed that its sub-brand CMF will be established as a subsidiary headquartered in India. Pei highlighted the company’s ambition to position CMF as “the country’s first truly global consumer tech brand. Built from India, to the world.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) via the official account @getpeid, Pei praised the Union Minister as “the driving force behind Make in India and the country’s thriving tech ecosystem.” He further emphasised India’s growing role in global technology, stating, “There is no doubt; India will play a key role in shaping the future of the global smartphone industry.”
With existing end-to-end capabilities, the company believes it is well-placed to transform CMF into a leading player in the consumer technology space with India serving as the foundation for global growth.
To execute this vision, Nothing has entered into a joint venture with Optiemus, one of India’s leading technology manufacturers. This collaboration forms the core of the brand’s India-first strategy.
The JV will see a planned investment of over $100 million, which is expected to create more than 1,800 jobs in India within the next three years.
“As part of this, I’m excited to announce our new manufacturing joint venture with Optiemus, one of India’s leading technology manufacturers – a key milestone in making this vision a reality. Through this JV, we plan to invest over $100M and create more than 1,800 jobs in India over the next three years,” Pei wrote in the X post.
This initiative strongly aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” mission, which encourages local manufacturing and strengthens the nation’s technological independence.
