Netflix’s new series Wednesday is a step in the right direction

Netflix’s Wednesday, check out our review, release date, cast, plot and more!

The Addams Family is a popular IP among groups of all ages. Since its beginning in 1938 by the creator “Charles Addams,” we have seen many iterations of everyone’s favourite spooky family in movies, TV shows, comics, and animated series. Netflix has added an 8-episode Addams Family spin-off series centred on the character Wednesday Addams to the franchise’s long list.

The first 4 episodes of the series are directed by the legendary director Tim Burton, the fifth and sixth episodes are directed by Gandja Monteiro, and the seventh and eighth are directed by James Marshall. The Titular character is played by Jenna Ortega, who was tremendous as young Jane in Jane the Virgin.

This tone and style of the series are perfect as they are spooky and are under Tim Burton’s control. Jenna Ortega plays a very likeable, stoic, Gothic, and calm female. The series seems to have struck the proper balance between making Addams Family fans nostalgic and providing streaming consumers with a fresh plot to immerse themselves in. Christina Ricci, who played a younger version of Wednesday in the movies, is also a great advantage for the show.

This is a big leap in terms of acting for Jenna Ortega, who is also an established Disney star and has worked in Disney shows like Stuck in the Middle, for which she received an Imagen Award, and the fact that her character does not want to laugh heightens Ortega’s deadpan comedy.

Fans of the Addams family will like this eight-part television series. Thing, the living, moving severed hand, is a fully realised character with quips about skincare and manicures, as well as a (fictitious) heart. In episode seven, Fred Armisen appears as Uncle Fester, playing the bald criminal with a wink. Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) engage in a highly sexualized exchange throughout the series. There is also a sequence with the two snaps from the classic theme tune. Some of these segments may grate on those who have just a passing interest in the Addams family or Tim Burton’s aesthetic. But there is much more to savour for fans and non-fans alike.

Ortega’s body gets a lot of use in the show’s direction, notably in the dance scene, when she commands the floor while remaining true to herself, and it’s not only for laughs; we see her petite body on screen many times as she battles forces far larger than her. These points of view strengthen her conflicts and make her seem to be the underdog, yet her superior knowledge and tenacity make her the obvious victor of the narrative.

Everything just works in the process. The mystery is difficult to solve, but you get the hints that are there, and the resolution makes sense. The action is thrilling, and the main characters, most of whom are minors, have performed exceptionally.

It is not often that a show does such a good job of integrating growing-up humans with hideous and horrifying creatures and a tale about serial murder. At the conclusion of the series, you will discover that you cannot help but smile because you will get the impression that you are catching up with old friends and watching them engage in the typical antics that involve their families. The show “Wednesday” on Netflix makes the most of the distinctive qualities of its main character.

Overall, Wednesday is a great show that you will enjoy even if you are not a fan of the zany Addams family. If you intend to watch the series, you should be aware that it is currently available and streaming on Netflix. It premiered on November 16th and released on 23rd november on Netflix, so it’s brand new. You’ll have a ball if you watch this series with your family or friends. Currently the series holds an 8.5 rating on the Internet Movie Database and has a 70% critics’ score and an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
