Motorola recently unveiled two new clamshell-style foldable smartphones for the global market. The company has now confirmed that the Motorola Razr 40 and the Razr 40 Ultra will soon be made available in India.

Unlike most Motorola smartphones, which usually go on sale via Flipkart, the upcoming models will be available via Amazon and other leading retail outlets.

As of now, there is no official confirmation on the launch date of the Razr 40 series. However, given the official teaser, these devices should be made available in the next few weeks.

Moto Razr 40 series

Despite having a similar name, the Razr 40 and the Razr 40 Ultra are two different devices. The Razr 40 Ultra is a cutting-edge clamshell style foldable with a big 3.6-inch cover display.

The smartphone has a primary 6.9-inch screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, and the device is based on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

Similarly, the Razr 40 has a smaller 1.5-inch cover display with a similar 6.9-inch primary display, which also has a peak refresh rate of 144Hz. This variant is based on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Both phones run on stock Android 13 OS and feature a 32-inch selfie camera on the inside. Similarly, the Razr 40 Ultra has a dual-camera setup with a 12 MP wide-angle and 13 MP ultra-wide angle lens, and the Razr 40 has a 64 MP primary camera and a 13 MP ultra-wide angle lens.

Moto Razr 40 series

The Razr 40 has a slightly large 4,200 mAh battery and the Razr 40 Ultra has a 3,800 mAh battery. Both devices support up to 30W wired fast charging and 5W wireless charging. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is priced at $999, which roughly translates to Rs 82,508.

Motorola has announced the launch of the Motorola Razr 40 series in India soon. The new Razr 40 family includes two phones, namely the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, which will be similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo Find N2 Flip.

While Motorola launched a folding phone in India in 2020, the old-gen model was highly expensive and not versatile. Motorola has been experimenting with Razr phones globally for the last two years. The Razr 40 series could be promising if priced right in India.

Moto Razr 40 series

In a press release, Motorola notes the new Razr 40 series will retail via Amazon, Reliance Digital stores and other leading retail outlets in India. The devices will also be available on the Motorola India website.

The company is yet to share its launch date, though it could be in July. Several leaks point out that Samsung and OnePlus are also gearing up to launch new folding smartphones next month. 2023 has already seen the entry of new players in the segment, such as Tecno and Google.

The India-specific Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra could be similar to the global iterations, which launched earlier this month. As the name suggests, the Razr 40 Ultra will include more advanced features.

The phone includes a bigger cover screen than the vanilla Razr 40. The cover display is much larger than what both Samsung and Oppo offer. It offers a viewing area of 3.6 inches with a 144Hz refresh rate. In its unfolded form, users can enjoy a viewing area of 6.9 inches — the same as the Motorola Razr 40.

Moto Razr 40 series

Both Motorola smartphones have dual cameras on the outside, though the specifications differ. The Ultra model includes a 12-megapixel primary sensor with support for optical image stabilisation (OIS)and a 13-megapixel secondary ultra-wide-angle camera.
The vanilla Razr 40 has a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera.
Both phones include a 32-megapixel selfie camera, though users can use the outer cameras to take selfies and preview the image on the cover display.

In terms of performance, the chipsets on board are also different. The Razr 40 Ultra includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, while the Razr 40 carries a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The addition of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 on the regular Razr 40 may result in a relatively affordable price, which many customers would appreciate.

For perspective, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo cost Rs 89,999 for the base 128GB variant. Motorola’s flagship devices have traditionally been more affordable in India. It will be interesting to see how the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra would be priced in the country.
