Meta has rolled out a major update for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and is introducing a range of new AI-powered features tailored for Indian users. The update adds UPI Lite payments, Hindi language support, and a celebrity AI voice based on Bollywood star Deepika Padukone. The new features aim to make the Ray-Ban Meta glasses more intuitive and localised, offering hands-free interactions, Hindi commands, and festive photo restyling options for Diwali. Here’s a quick look at what’s new.
Users can now interact with Meta AI on their Ray-Ban glasses using Deepika Padukone’s AI-generated voice, which speaks in Indian English. To activate it, users can simply open the Meta AI app, go to Device Settings > Meta AI > Language and Voice, and select the Bollywood actor’s voice option.
With the update, conversations can be started hands-free by saying “Hey Meta”. The assistant can then provide explanations, trivia, jokes, puzzles, translations, and more, all through the built-in speakers of the smart glasses.

This makes Padukone the first Indian actress to lend her voice to Meta AI, joining a global lineup that includes Awkwafina, Judi Dench, John Cena and other international celebrities.
Padukone’s addition to the Meta AI lineup comes amid growing discussions around AI-generated deepfakes and personality rights. Several Indian celebrities including Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Asha Bhonsle, and Arijit Singh, have taken legal steps to protect their likeness and voice from unauthorised AI use.
For the first time, Meta AI now supports Hindi commands on Ray-Ban glasses. It is possible with the help of the technology from Indian AI developer Sarvam. This update enables users to communicate with Meta AI in Hindi for a seamless hands-free experience.
To switch to Hindi, users can navigate to Device Settings > Meta AI > Language and Voice in the Meta AI app and select Hindi. Once activated, all voice interactions can be done in Hindi, whether it’s asking for weather updates (“Hey Meta, aaj ka mausam kaisa hai?”), taking photos, recording videos, or replying to messages.
This move is expected to make Meta AI more accessible and inclusive for India’s large Hindi-speaking population.
To celebrate the festive season, Meta has launched a Diwali Restyle feature for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The feature allows users to add fireworks, rangoli, and other festive effects to their photos, completely hands-free.
After taking a picture, users just need to say “Hey Meta, restyle this”, and Meta AI will automatically transform it into a Diwali-themed image. The restyled photos can then be viewed, saved, or shared directly in the Meta AI app.
This limited-time feature adds a fun and creative twist to festive photo sharing.
Meta is also integrating UPI Lite payments into its Ray-Ban glasses, allowing users to make quick, contactless transactions directly through voice commands. The feature was first showcased at the Global Fintech Fest and will soon be available to users.
To make a payment under ₹1,000, users can simply say “Hey Meta, Scan and Pay.” Meta AI then scans the QR code and completes the transaction through UPI Lite linked to the user’s WhatsApp bank account, all without needing to touch a phone or wallet.
According to Meta, this feature will make small everyday payments faster, safer, and completely hands-free, enhancing convenience for users on the go.
