It seems Qualcomm and MediaTek are both going through some moniker changes ahead of launching their much-anticipated sub-flagship chips. Just a few days ago, a leak revealed that Qualcomm’s upcoming chip will be called Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 instead of the previously rumoured Snapdragon 8s Elite. Now, it looks like MediaTek is making a similar move with its next big processor. Here’s what we know so far.
According to a new leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, MediaTek’s new sub-flagship chip, originally referred to as Dimensity 9350, will instead launch as Dimensity 9400e.

According to a recent Gizmochina report, the decision to change the name could be a strategic one. The company appears to be aligning the upcoming 9400e more with MediaTek’s current flagship lineup and not sticking with the 9300-series branding. However, it’s likely to remain deeply connected to the Dimensity 9300 series despite the new name.
Digital Chat Station describes the Dimensity 9400e as an upgraded version of the Dimensity 9300, calling it a “Dimensity 9300++.” However, it’s different from the Dimensity 9300+, which is already an enhanced variant of the 9300.
From what we understand, the 9400e will offer even better performance than the 9300+. In terms of core layout, the 9400e is expected to follow the same structure as the 9300 series –
The key difference could be higher clock speeds, giving it a noticeable performance boost.
The same leaker previously mentioned that OnePlus is working on a phone powered by this chip. Rumoured to be called the OnePlus Ace 5V, the device is expected to feature a 7000mAh-class battery and a flat 1.5K display, along with the Dimensity 9350, which now seems to be the Dimensity 9400e.
There’s no official launch date yet, but with Qualcomm’s 8s Gen 4 around the corner, MediaTek looks ready to heat up the sub-flagship battle.
