Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be an interesting device. While it will only have a single rear camera, a newly leaked case suggests Apple is making a bold design choice to highlight it.

Popular leaker Sonny Dickson, who recently shared dummy models of the entire iPhone 17 lineup, has now provided our first look at a case for the iPhone 17 Air.

In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Dickson shared an image of the case, which clearly features a large camera bar cutout at the top. This design is quite different from previous single-camera iPhones, which typically have a simple corner placement.

Posting the image, Dickson wrote, “Here’s your first look at a case for the iPhone 17 Air. If you didn’t know an Air was coming, you’d swear it was a Google Pixel case.”

Looking closely at the case, we can see cutouts for the standard volume buttons, the Action Button, the Side Button and a new Camera Control button. This confirms that Apple is adding a dedicated camera control button to the iPhone 17 Air.

It’s still unclear why Apple is using this camera bar design for a phone with just one rear camera. For comparison, the iPhone 16e also has a single camera but keeps it in the upper corner, similar to most iPhones.

Based on dummy models, the iPhone 17 Air’s flash is expected to be on the right side of the camera bar, while the camera sensor sits on the left. However, we’ll have to wait until Apple officially unveils the device this fall to see if there are any functional benefits to this new design.
