There has been plenty of speculations around Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Starting from its design to launch schedule, different reports have hinted at different scenarios. The recent word is that Cupertino giant is facing a slight delay in its production timeline. Although the company is still expected to unveil its first foldable in fall 2026. Here’s more on that.

Foldable iPhone Hits a Roadblock

According to a recent DigiTimes, the production schedule for foldable iPhone has been pushed back by “roughly one to two months. However, the report also notes that Apple has not informed its supply chain partners of any change in launch plans, which could mean that the original release window remains intact.

Earlier plans suggested that mass production of the iPhone Fold would begin in June 2026 but the latest report indicates that this timeline has now shifted to early August.

The delay is believed to be linked to challenges during the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase, which the device is currently undergoing. While some reports claim these manufacturing hurdles could be more significant than expected, others suggest that Apple will still manage to stay on track without impacting the final launch timeline.

What Previous Reports Have Said?

Recently, a report from Japanese publication Nikkei hinted that these engineering issues might push the launch to 2027.

However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman countered this claim stating that the iPhone Fold is still on schedule to debut “around the same time” or “soon after” the iPhone 18 Pro models. This would mean we are looking at a regular launch in September 2026.

The DigiTimes report appears to bridge the gap between these conflicting claims. It acknowledges the delay in the testing phase but suggests that Apple could compensate for lost time during mass production. Before entering full-scale manufacturing, the device still needs to complete Design Validation Testing (DVT) and Production Validation Testing (PVT).

That said, even a minor delay in production could impact availability and this could result in the device selling out quickly during pre-orders.

Foldable iPhone – What We Know So Far?

As for specifications, the iPhone Fold is expected to be Apple’s first foldable smartphone featuring a 5.5-inch display when folded and expanding to a 7.8-inch screen when unfolded. The device is also anticipated to carry a premium price tag ranging between $2,000 and $2,500 positioning it as one of the most expensive iPhones to date.

There have also been recent reports claiming that the official name of the device will be iPhone Ultra. Notably, Apple is yet to officially comment on anything related to its first foldable.
